Most women say the odor reminds them of their grandfather. Except one young lady, who said I smelled like the incense burned at her church ... (must have been Catholic, I guess). The young lady working the drive through window at Starbucks asked me for some of the tobacco, so she could "smell it unburned" ... (I gave her some).

And my wife? She just says that I must smoke outside, and in extreme moderation. She's never tried a pipe; but she loves a good cigar ...

My mom took notice back when i was 18...she was not happy at all. Does she count? Anywho...I'm 28 now. She sat out on the porch with me the other day while I smoked. Score one for the pipe.

***Side Note***I was smoking a little blend that arose from necessity that has now turned into a regular b/c of its "deliciousness." Half 1Q, half BCA.

When I was single I had numerous compliments on my pipe tobacco (alas much of what I smoked back then was Sail Green or Amphora. barf ) I had set my briars aside some time before I met the future Mrs Hovannes except for moments of deep contemplation, so my practice did not take the lass completely unawares. WHen I dusted off my briars she complained naught and even likes to get a noseful whenever I bring home a new blend.
I don't puff in the house or the car but that is my own choice---I don't want to push the envelope (besides I've spent enough Sunday mornings in saloons to have developed a dislike for reeking day old smoke.)

Interestingly I have found that smoking a pipe keeps away all such women as I wish to escape and attracts those in whom I have interest (such as my wife)

So true. At the time I met my wife, I hadn't cut my hair or trimmed my beard in about a year, I was wearing torn up baggy jeans, and I was smoking a ciggarette. To nearly every other girl I had encountered I was probably on the verge of repulsive. My wife however was undeterred.

Now that I duped her into marrying me, however, I can't so much get away with such habbits.

My wife has complained mildly but was more vocal about my cigar smoking before we were married but didn't mind my pipe smoking too much. When we got married I was told to smoke a pipe or nothing at all. I obliged and found my way to this site at that point.

Some ex girlfriends hated it. One didn't mind at all and others griped about it mildly. I wonder whatever happened to the one that didn't mind at all...

Well my wife liked it until we got married. Not so much any more. Whenever I smoke at a coffee shop I usually have my Alaskain Malamute with me. Between him and my pipe I can't keep the ladies away. I've had ladies ask me to go home with them to smoke my pipe in thief house because it smells so good. I also get that it reminds them of their grandfather a lot. My wife laughs!

BMH(Before Mrs. Hovannes) I had an Irish Setter and I'd smoke my pipe on our walks around the local upscale shopping center---same story as yours. Very Happy

Been done before, but when i was a stripling over thirty years ago, my pipe broke the ice in pubs with girls (and women) who approached me to talk about my pipe. I never had to do any chatting up. It was on aplate for me.

Actually, I was more interested in the beer. And the Baggies. Still am.

<mock response> Really? We have non-bachelors posting in a bachelor thread? </mock response>

I'd respond snarky about something about keep any numbers you recall but I'm not ready to give up on my wayward spouse just yet.
