We'll get to say that "We Were There" when our religious freedom was taken away.

We can tell our grandkids about the old days, when there were Catholic schools and universities, hospitals, charities, and orphan/foster care services.

Del, what takes the teeth out of Cardinal Georges's threat is that there are very very few authentic Catholic Universities left and even fewer Catholic Hospitals who aren't administered by secular hospital management mega-corps. Catholic adoption services will certainly take one in the chops, however(but the weakest and most vulnerable aren't a concern for the 'bama administration as BO's voting record shows)

Go look at the price of gas in Canada. Then go look at the price in the UK. Then look at countries in continental Europe then Australia etc. Try to find somebody who is a net importer and has comparable quality of life with a lower gas price than the US.

Wake up you myopic Americans!

Surely you have some awareness about the price of a barrel of crude and the trends over the last few years? Obama's 2006 message is just as valid today as it was in 2006. It's valid almost everywhere in the world too. The cost of fuel is a factor in just about every product because of transport costs.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Price_of_petroleum

America is the biggest importer in the world by far.

... sex has become so cheap, ubiquitous, and tedious, that even porn fails to titillate.

Porn Stars: The Death of a Sex-Industry Profession

Quote:
Another reason offered by Spiegler is the change in a porn star’s status from the stigmatized margins. “Ten years ago a girl fell into porn,” Spiegler says. “Now there are a lot of girls who dream of doing porn.”

Does that mean that it's going away?
Can we expect a new return to Christian values?

Last year, Illinois decided that it would no longer partner with Catholic Charities in adoption referrals and foster care placements.... because Catholic Charities refused to place kids with same-sex couples. Never mind that Catholic Charities was the largest service provider, scored highest on the granting scale, and the partnership had worked very successfully for many years.

And why didn't Obama come to the rescue, withholding all the child welfare money from Illinois until Catholic Charities got funded?

Yep. Gummint does not need to be involved in every adoption or foster placement. Church and Charities were doing this for centuries, long before gummint thought it ought to get involved.

But before or after Church and Charities started running commercial enterprises out of tax-exempt properties?

The matter of taxation and exemption is not relevant to history.

the Monasteries made beer and such to fund their work and supply their inns for travelers. I'm sure that various nobles attempted to tax the beer and/or inns from time to time. Others exempted the monastery from such taxes, and perhaps even taxed the lesser vassels in order to make contributions to the monasteries.

Modern American Christians and modern American government can find a fair way to work together and tax/fund and share duties for the common good, if we want to.

Del, as an observer I notice the number of States that are recognizing either civil unions or SSM. I wouldn't be surprised at all if it swept the entire nation.

Similar things are being contemplated in Colorado:

It's tough to employ public money when discrimination is an issue. It's a tough issue.
