Diamond Greenlight Wooden Matches

Post by Goose55 » Mon Nov 27, 2017 12:47 pm

Noticed a really great new type of abrasive strike strip on these last boxes of Diamond Greenlight kitchen matches I bought. It feels like very fine 400 grit sandpaper, but boy oh boy do the matches light quickly. Unlike the older dot matrix looking strike strip, pictured below, all one needs to do is strike a tiny area gently and bOoM! Next time I am at a WalMart I am going to see if they have this same new technology in the small packs of "penny" wood matches.

Also noticed the new boxes no longer say "Made in USA since 1881."

The new strike strip is amazing. If you expand the image, you may see on a high res monitor the few times I have been striking in just that tiny small lower left area. That's all it takes now.

The old strike strip of abrasive dots often times would wear out

Yes, I got a large bundle of these at Walmart for a dollar. Small box fits comfortably in my pocket. It never fails, when I pull them out to light my pipe, people look at me funny and say, "Uh, I have a lighter."

EDIT: Just found a box in my desk, I was mistaken, the small 32 count boxes have the dots as well.

Fire. Good.
Indeed. However, fire + whiskey = bad.

Thanks for the alert, Goose. I sure hope they do the same for the penny boxes. I always carry one (1) lighter and a back up box of penny matches. That strip can he frustrating.

I just bought a couple of bundles of the small boxes and they have indeed recently updated them to the new more robust striking surface as well.

I agree, the older ones would wear out before the matches were gone.

Well, at least you found Flintstone at last, and remarkably so. Fred's surname is all about the discovery of fire!
