Why Is It Called "Sidestream?

Post by Goose55 » Wed Dec 13, 2017 2:35 pm

Pipe smokers in the know (not me) have a term, "sidestream." I'd like to know more about it.

Isn't it just the smoke that emits from the bowl end of the pipe?

The only times I've about read someone describing "sidestream," they said it ha something to do with having one's mouth partly opened while, or just after drawing/ puffing. Perhaps similar to when we smell a rose, or a glass of wine. The fragrance and taste is supposed to be enhanced somehow.

Sounds like a variation on the French inhale. I wouldn't buy into it that much. Lucy would lose respect for you if she caught you making faces trying to puff smoke up your nose, and once a cat loses respect for you, it's all over. : )

Yeah, me too. My wife took a pic of me doing it one day to show me what a knob I looked.

Sidestream is just another esoteric concept invented by pipesmokers to make our hobby as unnecessarily complicated as possible.

It's kind of the same thing we do around here talking about our faith.

Hey-coincidence. I, too, sometimes wonder why about words.

I wonder why they call it a "coincidence?"

Co, incidence.

Prefix co - together, mutually, in common
Incident - an event or occurrence
Coincidence - Events occurring together.

Oh, yeah. Right. Cats do NOT take well to abuse of any kind.

I rescued a neighborhood cat that had been kicked in the face by some lady's low life boyfriend. I did not know it at the time, but that gave the cat an abscessed tooth and the Vet wanted to know who did that, for it was a felony offense.

Anybody here adverse to house cats? Best leave them alone. They are protected by law. And you can get into deep s*** hurting them.
