Fischer's Washington's Crossing reveals just how brutal the New Jersey British occupation was. Neither side was perfect in the way they conducted themselves, but I am aghast at the amount of heartless plundering committed by British and Hessian (German) troops, and officers upon the civilian population of NJ. But the subsequent civilian uprising turned the tide of the war and made Washington's eventual offensive that much easier.

You guys like a lot of serious books . . . I do most of my reading for entertainment. Last two I read were Founders by James Wesley Rawles and The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan.
