My wife, Our Lady of Perpetual Dissatisfaction and Eternal Recrimination, on the subject of Toilet Seats and the Position in Which to Leave Them. As I've heard it before, I decided to go scratch the dog.

Little hardcore punk this evening with DRI's Dealing With It. This band later was a pioneer of crossover thrash, but this albums still pretty punky.

This theological conundrum goes back to the fall and the expulsion from Eden.

Prior to the fall there were neither toilet seats nor were fig leaves worn.

After the fall, all humans carried the burden of sin and felt shame for the first time. For males this included constantly being reminded of their failures in the emblem of the eternal wrongness of leaving the toilet seat up.

Women are predestined to remind us of our shame regarding the toilet seat, and to ask us to eat healthy foods (like apples), which is why any of this became a problem in the first place.

Peeing in the yard seems a fair compromise and fitting resolution of the conundrum, reconnecting us with Eden.

I think Aquinas wrote about this, somewhere . . .
The most improper job of any man, even saints, is bossing other men. Not one in a million is fit for it, and least of all those who seek the opportunity.

J.R.R. Tolkien

Wherever we go in the world we find other men speaking the same language...dreaming the same dreams. And one of the big four - brownie, or brookie, cutthroat or rainbow - is the cause of it all.

I suggest removing the toilet seat from the toilet and hiding it. After a week with no toilet seat the women think a toilet seat, even sitting loose nearby, is a big improvement verging on luxury. Complaints about it's last positional state cease altogether.

AND... don't worry about divorce lawyers. Toilet seats are not a cause for divorce. But just in case you could leave a couple of unfinished 2x2's of approx 2 ft. length sitting in the kitchen. Women are enterprising.

How in the heck did that get on my play list? I suspect foul play.
