Finally. Little Shop of Horrors (1986) color-print of original finale is discovered and released this week on new director's-cut blu-ray.

This news should be traceable back to an equivalent JPL news story and it isn't. Not cool.

In December 2012 JPL did issue a press release, the gist of which says Voyager has entered a new region before leaving the building...

NASA's Voyager 1 spacecraft has entered a new region at the far reaches of our solar system that scientists feel is the final area the spacecraft has to cross before reaching interstellar space.

Scientists refer to this new region as a magnetic highway for charged particles because our sun's magnetic field lines are connected to interstellar magnetic field lines. This connection allows lower-energy charged particles that originate from inside our heliosphere -- or the bubble of charged particles the sun blows around itself -- to zoom out and allows higher-energy particles from outside to stream in. Before entering this region, the charged particles bounced around in all directions, as if trapped on local roads inside the heliosphere.

The Voyager team infers this region is still inside our solar bubble because the direction of the magnetic field lines has not changed. The direction of these magnetic field lines is predicted to change when Voyager breaks through to interstellar space. The new results were described at the American Geophysical Un*on meeting in San Francisco on Monday.

That is the most recent news listed on the JPL Voyager pages.

http://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/news/voyage ... egion.html

So I think the conclusion isn't shared by JPL folks.

I dunno, the American Geophysical Letters, I guess.

I'm not trying to redefine the edge of the solar system. But they've been surprised by the radiation that Voyager is detecting. It's not what they were expecting. Also there are objects in orbit around the sun whose far orbital distance (aphelion) extends almost eight times as far away from the sun as Voyageur is now. For example, Sedna. The solar system is turning out to be a surprisingly large place.

You're in good company and you'll enjoy this, even Phil had to issue a retraction:
http://www.slate.com/blogs/bad_astronom ... ystem.html
The JPL Voyager Team wrote:March 20, 2013

"The Voyager team is aware of reports today that NASA's Voyager 1 has left the solar system," said Edward Stone, Voyager project scientist based at the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, Calif. "It is the consensus of the Voyager science team that Voyager 1 has not yet left the solar system or reached interstellar space. In December 2012, the Voyager science team reported that Voyager 1 is within a new region called 'the magnetic highway' where energetic particles changed dramatically. A change in the direction of the magnetic field is the last critical indicator of reaching interstellar space and that change of direction has not yet been observed."

This one shares some features with the recent Higgs Boson Confirmation in the news eg both came from a conference, the authority said something different (CERN in the case of the HB).

Thought this was funny and figured this was the best place to post...

We had our annual May Day protests <redacted_emoji> in Seattle yesterday. The highlight was this tweet from the Seattle PD:
Brief disturbance earlier at 5th & Jackson between superheroes & clowns. Everything’s under control.

Breastfeeding Mother Charged With Contempt

A mother from my town was charged with contempt when she showed up for jury duty with her newborn son and did not bring along a babysitter to watch the rug rat in the event she was seated on a jury. The best part of the story is the lady's name - Trickle.
