Cops mum on cheese-smuggling ring allegation
NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. -- If the local police are investigating a few of their own officers for smuggling cheese into Canada, they're certainly not talking about it.

Const. Derek Watson said the force cannot "deny or confirm allegations of any ongoing investigation," after a national news organization reported a few members of the Niagara Regional Police may face charges in a cheese-smuggling ring.

Albert Zappitelli, who runs Zappi's Pizza, said that for a time it seemed like "every Tom, Dick and Harry" was coming around trying to see if he might be interested in buying cheaper cheese that was coming across the border from the United States.

Mozzarella - the gateway cheese. It seems harmless enough, but soon it's Muenster, then sharp cheddar, and so on. Before long there will be Canadian kids living on the street, selling their organs for a hit of American Gorgonzola.

Who's Canada? Is that a new soft drink? One of the big ones?

What dark times are these that the fine Mounted Forces to the North are barred from cheese? And that the procurement of said deliciousness is considered criminal?

Is there a cheesey equivalent for methadone?
Can Canadian National Helath establish cheesey methadone clinics to thwart this scourge?
Or should Canadian cheese be made available without cost to registered cheese offenders?
Could this be a northern version of fast and furious (sharp and cheesey?) to clandestinely rid US stockpiles of that "government cheese" left over from the 70's, and blame it on the Canadian cheese cartels running amuck in border towns, dishing up cheap nachos?

"London Police have been cracking down during their Project L.E.A.R.N. (Liquor Enforcement and Reduction of Noise) campaign, which ends Sunday. The aim of it is to address “quality of life issues” and to target “specific geographic areas traditionally plagued with nuisance type behaviours,” according to the London police website."

They do this every year. There are a lot schools in London so lots of noisy students.

Cheering and noise is in violation. The motto of the London police dept. is "Deeds not Words". One wonders how effective this will be in court.

When I was a student a group of us used to plan the overthrow of the authorities every year joint with Ottawa U. Insurrection. We were quiet about it though. Kids these days are soft.

Canadian money won't go to abortion for war rape victims
The federal government will not fund overseas projects that give victims of rape during war or child brides access to abortions, International Development Minister Christian Paradis said Friday.

After a meeting of the Canadian Network on Maternal, Newborn and Child Health, Paradis said the government will continue with the funding guidelines it announced at the G8 summit in Muskoka three years ago.

In pledging $3 billion for maternal and child health initiatives at the close of the summit, Harper said projects that provide abortion services would be excluded because there were so many other important projects to support.
