Well, it's over until Christmas. Thoughts?

I have mixed emotions. It's like when you're at a job for several years and the team has grown to a point where everyone works well together and you're firing on all cylinders and then someone suddenly moves on, and then another and then the manager retires and suddenly you feel somewhat alone albeit with a rather blank slate in front of you.

Since 1983, my lad. It's the first television show that I remember. The Fifth Doctor was my first but the First is my favorite, he's the most like me, after all. The Eleventh wasn't half bad, either. I didn't want to like the new series, but I did, though I still don't like it as much as I liked the original series.

The writers have been decent with Capaldi when he does some assessment here and there. The switch from sonic screwdriver to sonic glasses and electric guitar were curious and didn't seem to catch on. He has talents with the guitar-- yet it didn't seem to quite fit long term. That remarkable episode where he hit the harder than diamond surface repeatedly in a countably infinite way was intense and I think one of the top episodes-- at least featuring Capaldi if not even among all the doctors.

Bill didn't quite catch on with me. Her hair was fun-- and the writers had decent dialogue between the two of them. It did seem they were sending some sincere throwback to some very early Doctor Who episodes with some references this season. It will be very interesting to see where they go in the next step.

Of the reboot, the ninth doctor- Eccleston, was my favorite. He did a very strong and mysterious beginning with a few fantastic episodes with a brief stay and then a good bye. I felt that was fantastic. :) It was brilliantly done to "not overstay". He set the path for the others to become an establishment. Can you really have a favorite with Tenant if you didn't have Eccleston to set him up? He had an amazing stay with Rose and set up the Tenant follow up and relationship challenges. And his first line? "Run." Brilliant.

I like how the series does the change up and the writers are challenged working with new doctors and new companions. They keep the past, introduce new traditions and story arcs and it's quite consistently well done.

It was curious in that episode that the doctor was not able to keep his promise. I wonder if that will take a toll in the next with the changes.

I've liked each of 9 through 12 in their own unique ways, and aside from a few standout episodes each, remember them more as general feelings or impressions. I recall 10 as the most consistently entertaining. 11 was brilliantly played but the story arcs were a little too wibbly wobbly. 12 feels darker and more brooding. 9 was a good start and i wish we got to see more of him than we did.

I have never seen an episode of Doctor Who.

Not really seeing that changing. Ever.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to it. I think the series is starting to feel a bit stale around the edges. This is just the kind of change that leaves enough room to revitalize things, so I am optimistic. Actually, far more so than I was at the last few regenerations.

I hear you. I'm seeing a lot of angsty meltdowns over this on FB. I'm actually looking forward to seeing how they handle it. It could, obviously, be a disaster of silliness, but it could be brilliant.

Looks epic!

The morph from the old footage to the actor playing the first doctor is sweet.

By "actor playing the First Doctor" I assume you are referring to David Bradley? A fine job he does, too. Like William Hartnell, Bradley often specializes in playing mean old men, like the First Doctor.

Another reason why the First Doctor is the best Doctor; he's, so far, the only Doctor seen to smoke a pipe.
