Simple Pleasures

Post by Brigid » Sun Nov 11, 2012 11:33 pm

So I spent this weekend in Appalachia hiking, camping, and drinking moonshine for breakfast. It was delightful.

It got me thinking about simple pleasures.
Sharp knives
Warming your feet by a campfire in chilly weather
Really nice toilet paper
Hiking by a creek bed
Stargazing on clear nights
Clean sheets
Fresh crusty bread with brie

What are some of yours?

Here asre some in no particular order:

Dog at your feet.
Sun on your face.
Lover in bed beside you.
Bowl of hot soup and a grilled cheese sandwich on a cold day.
.22LR rifle on an autumn afternoon.
Swim in a lake.
Hammock in the spring.
Good book in the winter.
Lunch with the kids.
Bowl of your favorite tobak.
Fishing in summer.
Aye. Happiness has been achieved. I can now love you all because I'll never know what you actually think. --- Hugodrax, 16 July 2016

I could list a dozen things, but right now, after three days of being on the wards with a attending I just don't care to be around.......

1) sleep
2) my wife's kiss
3) my daughters' giggles

(And when I wake up later today a hot meal - red beans and rice because it's Monday.)

One of my favorite simple pleasures is the feel of brand spanking new socks.

I think it was on another 'simple pleasures' thread a few years ago that SlowToke submitted one of the best ever - 'dropping a deuce on company time'. That thought has encouraged me through some rough days at work.

Staying in bed longer than I should.

That feeling after a workout.

The laughter of my wife and children.

Morning on my patio with a cup of coffee, especially during rose time.

Rainy afternoons on the porch with my Irish Setter, a pipe of good tobacco or cigar, and a glass of brandy or bourbon.

Cooking for my family and friends.

Anytime my son or daughter wants to talk with me about "important" stuff

Taking my family to Mass on Sundays

Camping in the mountains.

Foggy mornings by the sea.

Sweatshirts with hoods.

Good red wine, especially at a Basque restraunt.

Armenian food.

Salsa!

Hitting every note perfectly while playing my saxophone.

Making people laugh.

Thanks for starting the thread, Brigid. I'm starting to realize more and more the simple pleasures I have here in the U.S., especially since many will not be available to me.

A nice bottle of hard cider, preferably Woodchuck's Fall addition.

A nice, long smoke of a tobacco favorite.

A pizza with all types of meat.

The breath of life.

The ability to actually sit down and have time to read Scripture.

The simple, yet complex, majesty of Eucharist every week.

Almonds.

Ah yes, still a favorite. I'm here to inspire and exhort.
