That really bad but very hot coffee out of a urn at the garage when you've brought your car in for service in the wee hours on a freezing morning

The look on your daughter's face when you pick her up from school well past seven o'clock in the evening because she's been rehearsing for a play and hasn't eaten anything since lunch, and you surprise her with a little bag of hot, salty crinkle cut french fries from a drive-in.

Christmas decorations all lit up at night on Main St (where they still do that sort of thing)

Going to early morning Mass when its still dark outside, walking across the parking lot towards the light from the stained glass windows

Pavoratti, our gelding, who gets grain in a rubber pan every morning. I leave the pan in his pasture and every morning I find it pushed back under the gate in expectation of getting more grain.

Looking up at the snow capped Sierra Nevadas from our little patch of farm.

Finding an old Crescent wrench in a garage yesterday that was rusted and frozen stuck so I sprayed WD-40 on it and hit it with a wire brush until I could get it to opem and closed! With the two I recently bought, this makes me a very weathy man in cultures where Crescent wrenches are highy valued.

The taste of fresh Cheerios from a brand new box.

Really sharp knives.

Reading Hilaire Belloc's The Four Men and The Path To Rome

Autumn hikes along the river.

Hot lahmajoons for lunch (or breakfast or supper)

The aroma of freshly-grated nutmeg.

It's even better if the nutmeg's being grated onto a saute pan full of butter and portabello mushroom slices...

Having the things that you put into your stomach stay there an appropriate amount of time and exit in a healthy, painless manner.
