I was in fifth grade. My friend Mike had the cassette tape. It was about that same time that he brought Jack Daniels to school in his thermos.

I try not to remember the eighties. I'm thankful that I wasn't alive in the seventies. Society had already gone straight to hell before I was even born. I blame all of you cursed boomers and you "pursuit of happiness" and your "tee shirts" and your "rock and roll". Dammit. It's all your fault. All of you. We used to have a world worth living in. A world of oppressive hierarchy where the insane proclamations of madmen like be meant something. A world of unwashed, uncomfortable woolen clothing. A world where there was an outbreak of plague every couple of years that put the fear of God back into you bastards. We had it and you people with your free love and your hope and your progress threw it away like so much tepid dishwater and I will never ever, ever forgive you for robbing me of it.

And I don't want to listen to your nostalgia, either, making it out as though you lived is some sort of pre-technological Shangri-La. You want the simple life? You should spend a week with me, dammit. That'd straighten you out. I don't have a television. I don't have central heating or air conditioning. I don't have medical or dental insurance. I don't have anything but the most tenuous grasp on reality. You know what I do have? I have a bunch of moldy, old books that I read from constantly and the skulls of dead animals that I talk to when I'm drunk or lonely. The only reason I own a computer, which I only use outside of the house, is so that I can more effectively communicate to you golly gee lackwits just how much I despise all of you.

Now shut up.

I was midway through the toddler phase when the 80's were over.

But for me, pre-internet was anything before 2002 or so. Living in the sticks in a one income household slows your adoption of new technology.

I will admit that the 70's were very pipe friendly. Old time tobacconists held down Main Street and Tinderboxes wre in all the malls...and travel agents always seemed to be pipe smokers---ah! travel agencies with their posters and little models of cruise ships and airliners.
The 80's was Happy Hour heaven! Who remembers those B-B-Q sausages with the dill pickle and melted cheese? Or the sliders with 1000 island dressing? That was before the local gov't put the kibosh on Happy Hours because the goody two-shoes thought it promoted drinking and driving.

Ah the 70s my Back sliding decade, Yes I was into Disco, yes I smoked a little weed, yes I drank Jack Daniels in mass quantities. But I also met and married Judy in 77 and Chris was born in Dec of 79. Quit smoking grass when Judy was Pregnant with Chris, Only drank liquor in Moderation. was introduced to Max Floyd and the Rock and Roll army ON KY102 in the early 80s. And Dick and Jay in the mornings. Went back to the Church in Belvedere Heights where I was Baptized and started making my way back to the Lord. I decided at that time to put away childish things. Matthew was Born in 83. went back to School started working on cars. Judy and I will have our 38 year anniversary in august. all in all the 70s and 80s were a good time.

Me and Judy, Just change to Dates to the Mid 70s, Location to Lake of the Ozarks. I was the one that was 17 she was 19 at the time.

Started smoking a pipe while I was in high school in the '70s. Used to hang out at an honest to goodness tobacconist whose store was on the way home from school. His name was Marshall and he had a sidekick named Don who did honest to goodness pipe repairs in the back of the shop. Good times.
I am a pipe smoker, the very embodiment of mellow.
I let nothing chap my ass.

This time period was tough for me, but man do I miss those days. The world made a little more sense back then, even if I didn't understand most of it...and no internet.
