Dad-gummit--everybody and their mama has a dog named "Bear" back in Bammer, so it shouldn't seem that strange.

We thank God every day.
I still pinch myself fearing I'll wake up.

Mrs. DP and I bought this piece of land 21 years ago, before land near Durango became too expensive for working stiffs.
We searched for 10 years before finding it.

I was a full-time fishing guide and writer, she was a nurse practitioner working in somebody else's clinic when we bought it.
Even though we're doing better now, we couldn't begin to afford it or the small house we built at today's prices.

What a wonderful place to train a gun dog! The convenience of being able to really work a dog at home is a dream of mine along with being able to shoot my longbows in such a convenient location. I guess I should be grateful that I can hop in car and go do those things once a week or so.

Beautiful pups, John Michael and John Boy.
Both have a very keen look of intelligence.

I used to joke that I'd never get a cow dog or any dog with heeler or border collie in him because I didn't want a dog that was smarter than I. But it didn't work out. Every dog I've ever owned turned out to be smarter than I am.

Nearly a month without a post here.
That's criminal!

Our now 14 year old, Quinn.
She now has tumors on her spleen, and she's taking daily antibiotics because the minute we stop she gets an infection of some kind.

But she's still with us, still playful and still happy.
We're gonna spoil her rotten for whatever time she has left.

You should buy a Bouvier. No danger of being outsmarted.

Some sad news from Durango.

Our 14 year-old setter, Quinn, has suffered with hemangiosarcoma for the past few months, had a major bleed yesterday with very pale gums and discomfort, a rough night last night and was barely conscious and unable to stand or walk this morning.

We took her to the vet to put her out of her suffering.
