That's an amazing house, sir. You really have some elbow room. I've been in smaller church halls than that room.
Thank you Hugo. Went with the open concept living space. Kitchen, dining, & living rooms all in one open space.
Not really compatible with smoking. Do you have plans for a detached man cave, complete with trout pool, games room, etc?

Yes-ish. Three season porch with outdoor fireplace out the sliding back doors in the great room.

It's not truly a pure open concept unless the bathroom is included in the open space.

Talked to our inspector today and he said I have to have my siding done before I can be granted occupancy.

Seriously? Psht.

I think the city just never wants me to be able to move into this house.

I'm sure it's frustrating, but really, it's a good thing. As long as they stay on top of their code enforcement too. The whole neighborhood benefits and values remain stable more easily when these rules are enforced. I have seen people live in houses without proper walls for years! The entire street pays for it when their own values take a hit on account of one person. I know you mean to finish it, I'm not saying otherwise. But the city knows that too many people don't. 02cents.

Yeah, I get it. Don't even think he wanted to tell me that.

He's seen me build it myself from the ground up and knows I'll get it done, seemingly didn't want to set a bad precedent tho.

The polygamist cultists in Colorado City got away with leaving their houses unfinished for years to avoid property taxes.

I know someone who has slowly replaced a trailer with a home. Piece by piece. "Ongoing" construction since 1986 helped him circumvent a number of code violations.

We are getting very close.

After speaking with the inspector last week, the only thing he truly wanted (as stated before) was for us to have made "significant strides on the siding".

About 2/3 done with the siding that is visible from curb, hoping for a temporary occupancy permit beginning of next week and maybe (fingers crossed) being able to move before June 1!

Regardless, we're in the final push of getting ourselves into the new home!

This is the current state:
Roofing done, siding about ready to get started (being able to work outside due to mild winter has been great)

Have an inspection scheduled for Tuesday morning which could grant us occupancy.

Starting to look like we'll be able to move before the 1st!
