Those temps are not dangerously high for Phoenix. It gets this hot and hotter every summer.
Oh, but El Contreras, they are!

Every summer there are some days that do exceed 110, especially in June, and sometimes July. But 118 is rare. Several days next week will be at 118 or above.

I'm curious about the persistence of this. Did you check temps early in the century?
And you doubt global warming? What is the trend? Is it getting warmer?

In July 2007, around the 4th of July, there were two days here, 1000 feet higher than Phoenix, that were 117. Blistering hot.

When I was a teen, we lived in the Mojave near Edwards Air Force Base. We saw 115 several times a Summer...my stepdad griped about us using the air conditioner and my Mom said we should still stay outside because she didn't want the mess and noise of us in the house. She told us to "...just stay in the shade". I think she was inside drinking...

I have patiently waited for a Lady Banks (Tombstone) Rose to grow up onto an arbor I built, for afternoon shade. Its been ten years and it's lovely.

Just remember to set your alarm so that you leave the oven before feeling cooked. Stay moist and shady.

I see in the latest forecast the real Phoenix heat begins Sunday, with no end in sight. 115 or above, for days on end. Tuesday is forecast to be 121 degrees. 1000 feet higher here, much "cooler," only 113.

I agree. Send them to me and I'll let the moist Pacific Northwest air hydrate your briar. I may even get them back to you someday...after I thoroughly test them. You should probably include samples of your normal tobacco also so that my tests can accurately represent the conditions you're likely to subject your pipes to.
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are not.

They say it's a "dry heat," and that's true, for as for today it's 7% humidity. But next week it's still going to be HOT

Depends on the pipe shank. Stems can be safely removed from pipes that have reinforced shanks such as the Stanwell Brass Band, or the Ben Wade Prominence with vulcanite shank extension.

I don't think I've read a single word of this thread (yet) except the thread title. But I can tell you that the heat and humidity here got me good today, while outside building fence. I'm still not quite right.

And or Military Mounts. Do you smoke so frequently that you need to put them out in the sun? How many pipes do you have? Maybe a 7 day rotation would be beneficial for you?
