Tax

Post by Onyx » Mon Jun 19, 2017 2:48 am

Today, like every month, my company paid tax. I explained to my kids why I pay tax, and how it funds their schools, and also the schools of kids whose parents cannot afford to pay much. It paid for the hospitals they were born in, and the emergency units that we took them to when they broke their arms and legs and when they needed stitches. And how all the other people who need stitches have somewhere to go. Taxes pay for the retirement of those who've served this country. I was the shameless hero of this story. I paid tax. That is all.

I wish that submitting tax payments accomplished those things, or paid for those things.

I pay taxes so my house doesn't get taken from me and I don't go to jail for not paying taxes.

And because you believe you and other citizens are better able to provide monetary aid to medical and educational services where needed better than government can, right? Or is it because you just don't like to pay taxes and to hell with the others?

The governments spend money as they wish. If they don't raise enough in taxes, then they borrow the difference.

The governments tax us as much as they think they can get from us. They do not moderate their spending decisions in relation to the tax we contribute.

This logical disconnection is irresponsible, as it places the burden of our present consumption heavily on the shoulders of future generations. And we don't even bother to encourage people to get married, stay married, and have lots of children.

If Australia practices fiscal responsibility, then it is a very good thing that Onyx teaches his children the virtue of their participation in this.

I have no problem attributing heroism to taxpayers, nor villainy to wasteful governments.

In fairness to Francis, he saw where this thread would go so he brought out the big guns right from the start.

I don't know if you've spent much time getting drunk and mixing it up in bars, but there's often a point when you can sense an argument is going to turn in to a fight and you make a quick assessment and realize you'd better take the first two swings if you want to get out of there in one piece.

This is sort of like that.

Mentioning tax on CPS is like mentioning religion on other forums.
