I never really thought of it as a horror movie, until I saw it ranked as #1 scariest movie of all time.

Maybe for it's time it was scary but by today's standards it's a snore-fest.

Zombieland is my all-time favorite. Not because it's necessarily scary but because it's awesome. We need more movies like Zombieland.

The Woman in Black.

I've never actually watched it all. It creeps me out. So I have no idea whether it's actually a good movie. Too much suspense.
I used to run from the room when I was 5 yo when the wicked witch of the west was on the Wizard of Oz. That's now a favourite. I can even stay in the room.

I'm the same way with Wizard of Oz. Flying monkeys and a melting witch? Heck, no. Messed me up for life.

I think that the "best" are often the first scary movies you saw. When you are young you are able to have a story envelope you in a way it doesn't when you are older and skeptical.

This. For me it was The Amityville Horror (the 1979 version). It was then that I decided I don't like horror movies and I've not watched one since. Seriously, I didn't find it enjoyable and I swore off the genre.

I watched Jaws in 1975 but it didn't bother me nearly as much. Perhaps because I lived 2000 miles from the beach, or perhaps I just considered it a fishing movie.

I dunno if it's my favorite, but 1979's Dracula with Frank Langella is damn good.

Salem's Lot scared the dickens out of me when I was a kid. The tiki doll in Trilogy of Terror also scared the bejeezus out of me. I remember watching that one after my aunt's Tupperware party at my cousins house when I was about 9.

Late to the party, but I agree... When the little kids "friend" the vampire is tapping on his window, the woman at the morgue is sitting up under the sheet, etc. Scared me pretty good as a young'un...

The Haunting. The one starring Julie Harris and Claire Bloom; 1960 I think. Black and White and you never actually saw a ghost. They did a remake; it was crap.

The Thing. The original with James Arness as the creature. I was 6 or 7 years old when I saw it.
Well, I was in the theater where it was being shown and what I saw mostly was the back of the seat in front of me.
