My late grandfather used to have a pack of Blue Tick hounds. Used them to hunt “coons” almost every night of the open season. My dad went with him sometimes. Apparently, grandpa would go so often in order to stay away from my grandma. He slept in the back of his pickup truck after the evening chase in some river valley while the dogs were tied up nearby. He only came home to eat supper and to put the dogs in their kennel during the day while he went to work. I guess he killed hundreds of coons every year with the help of his hounds. He lost a young dog or two to the coons too. Once in a while a big boar coon would take to water with the hounds in tow, then would drown the inexperienced dog.

Anyway, that’s my “regular guy” share for the day.
It’s almost believable, but I love it most of the time whether it’s true or not.

I raised a Treeing Walker puppy and made him into a UKC Night Champion; lost interest in coon hunting and sold him to buy my first car when I was 15.

The SAR posse I was on had a blood...St. Hubert's hound named Penny. She found a lot of lost campers.

yup as in I like all hounds...but there is not much call for chasing raccoons in most law enforcement situations. The Bloodhound is a SaR - criminal apprehension machine.

I love a Bloodhound; met a local breeder in Roanoke with a great looking big male.
