Today...

Post by JMG » Thu Mar 15, 2018 10:35 pm

Today...I have been fortunate enough to acquire some work while I'm home. It's not an every day 9-5, but it's some grocery money and I'm thankful for it. It makes me feel like less of a mooch. Today while discussing the following days work with my boss, he explained how he would like a few trees cut with a chainsaw and disposed of. He explained, and explained, and explained. I asked how big the trees were. He was able to exemplify the size of the trees with this two hands...touching each other. At the sight of this I told him it would be no problem. He continued to explain. I listened politely. Then, once again, told him it would be no problem. It made me feel good to speak so confidently about something I knew I could do that someone else obviously doubted. I struggle with self-confidence.

After work, I took my three daughters out to the pasture to shoot the 22. It was a great time with my girls. My daughters are so much more than I deserve.

So, after failing at yet another attempt to make a pipe, the day wasn't a total wash.

The house I grew up in was surrounded by woods. We kept the house warm with the fireplace. My brothers and I are very familiar with chainsaws, axes, mauls, etc. Sometimes I wonder if my Dad had us do this work, just to wear off our abounding energy.

Glad you found some fairly easy work to do.

My wife doubts and questions my tree felling abilities every time I cut down a tree. I typically drop it right where I intend to. Good to hear you found some work at something at which you're proficient. I've always felt that being able to properly fell a tree is a mark of a true man.

This...but for each man that does know how...there are 20 who think they do but don't :)

Congrats JMG on the work. You are certainly one who does know how. And congrats on the shooting time with the girls...doesn't get much better than that

I'd agree, but I'd have to admit to occasionally misjudging the lean of a tree when working on the side of a ridge. I do fairly well on flat ground, though.

One time I pushed a friend in front of a falling tree to spare myself.

If you push a friend in front of a tree does he make a sound?

We all do, from time to time. Unless he lives to an old age and no longer cares if his chinks show, this is one of those things our dad never tells us but yes, we all do.
