Ok,what's the little icons in front of posts...

Post by peter cornbriar » Sat Oct 11, 2014 8:05 pm

'scuse me: How to interpret the moving circular icon-like thingies when the index is displayed... some are moving as if they were being read, some are staionary, some are crimson, some are blue, some have little stars in them... enouph to make me want to light up a bowl and step away from the screen
Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life.

Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. Ecc.12:13

I get up, walk two steps, fall down and get up again only to repeat the same...if you meet me face down on life's pathway, please help me to get up.

I saw a cob nation t-shirt at the show... it was 25 smacks. I don't smoke cobs so I can buy 25 dollar t-shirts.

It aint rocket surgery. Study them for a minute or so and I bet you could figure them out. The whole point of icons is to convey information in a simple graphic format that can be easily understood by viewers.

You've got yer read topics and unread topics. You've got topics you've posted in and topics you haven't posted in. You've got yer regular topics and yer hot topics (with the rolling text). There's a default setting (probably 25?) for hot topic classification. Then you've got yer locked or moved topics. Finally you've got yer sticky topics (they always stay at the top of the page in each forum) and yer informational topics.

One might add that the icons are not unique to CPS. They are a standard feature of nearly every phpBB forum, which is arguably the most common forum software on the interwebs.

Indeed, we are actually using the default style with PHPBB version 3, since the one Munkey initially picked out still ends lots of work to get it to work right (in my ungrown green space time - maybe over the Christmastide timeframe).

A lot of the forum functionality is "stock", so reviewing the Forum problems forums for the link to the Users Manual is a fine, fine thing to do especially when anyone has questions like this. That, and using Google to your advantage is a good thing too - there's lots and lots of information available that way, right at one's fingertips, as is the information at http://phpBB.com site.

Happy foruming!

Seems like an awful lot of work there Pepik. Learning stuff shouldn't be that hard.

Work?!? Yes. It keeps you out of idle time for devilish pursuits. Thus, it makes the effort expended a means to virtue. You'll find I'm more than just a little bit Catholic about folks helping themselves - I'm positively Jesuit about it!
