I was watching Blues Brothers the other night. It caught my attention that there is a pipe subplot going on. The Illinois Nazis leader has a cob while Donald Duck Dunn smokes a briar.

I saw a pipe in my car this morning. I hope it's there when I get back to the car.

A few days ago I was playing cribbage in a pizzeria and tavern. Through the window by which I was sitting I witnessed an old man with a massive beard who was smoking a quarter bent apple briar. He stood out there for some time. When I went outside to smoke myself I walked around the corner to avoid being seen because unlike the rest of you base poltroons I have the decency not to attempt concourse with complete strangers.

Unfamiliar with this usage, old top. Do you mean "discourse?"

Agreed about the oiks, though.

According to Dictionary.com, one of the definitions is "an assemblage; gathering" which would seem to work in this instance.
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are not.

While playing Assassins Creed Unity I saw a character in a crowd smoking a churchwarden.
It sounded better when the voices in my head were saying it.

Since you used the word "concourse" and not "congress," I agree fully with your choice.
I cannot speak for the rest of the poltroons, for whom the phrase "congress with complete strangers" might, regrettably, apply.

There's a small barber shop in the town where I am working right now. Twice while walking by it I've seen a dapper, elderly man in a barber coat standing outside smoking a billiard. Once he raised his pipe to me when he saw me walking by also smoking a pipe.

Perhaps I should go there should I feel the need for a haircut any time soon.
