This thread revived my interest in an estate Stanwell. And I think I've found one.
You won’t be disappointed.
What if I saw a Ben Wade I wanted and got it instead? Now, back to that Stanwell.

What model of Stanwell is it?
Looking at a 2001 Sandblasted Dublin, but haven't quite pulled the trigger. BTW, just doing a small search on the web, it seems many are/were very pleased with the Italian Stanwells.
Then again, many are pleased with a Grabow. Different strokes and all.

Perhaps, although we may be miscommunicating here now. I was speaking comparatively, wrt pre and post Denmark Stanwells specifically.

Don't know, sir. Searching for it on my end. The Germans, however, I know are great fans of filters.

Seems like years ago I had a couple of Design Berlin pipes that used a 9mm filter. They were decent pipes on the low end of their offerings.

I've never been pro- or anti-filters. If a pipe is made for them, I'll use them.

The Italian made Stanwells aren't terrible but the quality isn't as good as the ones made in Denmark. It's mostly in the finer details like stem fit, bit thickness, etc. One thing I've noticed is that the Italian made pipes are over-buffed on the smooth parts.

I’ve had a couple of old danish Stanwells in the past, don’t currently have any, miss the ones I had, but you know all things come and go.
