I did just yesterday find some McCl Stave Aged Virginia tins made for their 35th Anniversary at a Brick & Mortar in Wash, D.C., GTTobacco. But I've received no confirm email from them so it may not even be there.

I have an unopened tin of that on my shelf.

Gentlemen:

You will survive. I've been through the demise of Virginian No. 10, Troost Slices, Amphora, St Bruno, Erinmore Flake, the Buffl3head blends, Walnut, and Sugar Barrel. Now there is no more McClelland.

It's sad every time. But you'll find others you love and some that may surprise you.

Be happy that McClelland didn't nosedive in quality before it left you. Anybody that smoked Murray's era Dunhill can tell you it takes more than a name.

So true. Think of it as the unseen hand of the market grabbing for your wallet to purchase something new to try out. You’ll find new favorites and soon forget the void left by their departure. Now we can all be grumpy codgers and complain about “the good old days of McClelland tobacco.”

I placed a fairly large order last year and recently for McClelland stuff, but I sure wish I would have ordered more FM Cellar. I suppose what I have will have to do. It was a good run, and I suppose if every pipe tobacco business closed today I'd have enough to last me for at least a decade, more if rationed. McClelland definitely was the gem of the pipe tobacco world, at least in my opinion.

It was extremely moving and I hope this remains on the desks and walls of all growers, suppliers and producers for years to come.

I've 'met' the McNiels at the GKCPC show a few times. I also ran in to Mike once or twice at the Cigar & Tabac shop in Overland Park KS that was sort of their 'outlet'. That shop had more McClelland blends than any other shop I've visited.

Very classy.

Probably not as classy tho as someone sending me some Frog Morton Cellar. Now that'd be some class act!

A damned sad day indeed. It's not just the end of some blends, it's the end of a company, the end of a family business. Obviously some principled, hard workers, with high ethics. I'll be like Sid, and fill a bowl and raise a toast, to their 40 year past, and to whatever lay ahead.

For those of you crying about not having any stock of your favorite McClelland blends, all I can say is - I told you so! I tried to subtly give you guys the heads up back in October of 2017 and then again in December.

The impetus for this order:

A small order consisting of the following:

5 tins of McClelland's Virginia #24
5 tins of McClelland's Virginia #27
5 tins of McClelland's Blackwoods Flake
20 tins of McClelland's 40th Anniversary
2 lbs of McClelland's 5100
2 lbs of Dan's DaVinci
I had the inside scoop but was sworn to secrecy.
I had a very reliable source.

It is very sad news indeed. I've nearly exclusively been a McClelland's smoker from the get go and, to be honest, I'm not sure I'll still smoke a pipe once my stock is gone. There just aren't any blends out there that I like even remotely close to how much I like McClelland Virginias. Luckily, I have a pretty significant cellar of their tobaccos that should last me for at least a couple decades.

I'm guessing the 2 local B&M's here will have quite a good stock still. Now, do I want to pay $60+ a tin? Hmmmm not likely

As a fairly new pipe smoker--only a little over two years--I am grateful I came in on at least the very tail end of McClelland's legacy. I am grateful for the modest amount of their blends I came to love and collect.

Today I decided I would go through my cellar to see just how much McClelland Product I actually have. I had guessed maybe 9 pounds, but the tally is 22 ½ pounds (11.5 pounds of McClelland tinned Virginias & 11 pounds of bulk) equal to 204 50g tins. If I can get 6 bowls out of one tin, and I only smoke 1 bowl of McClelland per day, as I normally do, in the evening, it will last 3.35 years, till the summer of 2021.

Tins
26 Beacon Extra 50g
19 Aurora 50g
14 Tudor Castle 50g
4 Beacon 50g
4 Pebblecut 50g
7 St. James Woods 100g
4 40th Aniversary 100g
1 Frog Morton 100g
1 Dark Star 100g

BULK
2015 VaPer 5.25 pounds
5100 Red Cake 2.25 pounds
5115 Old World Classic Cake 2 pounds
2010 Classic Virginia ½ pound
2000 Fragrant Matured Cake 1 pound
