Congrats to Tyler Beard, runner up in P&T carving contes
In the latest issue of P&T, our own esteemed pipe maker Tyler Lane Beard was one of 9 runners up in the carving contest. A very beautiful pipe and one that I am sure was one of the top contenders. Hopefully, he can fill us in a little more of the details on the pipe. Congrats Tyler on a fine pipe!

Thanks guys. I appreciate the kind words.
What details would you like about the pipe?
I can tell you that the shank extension is ivory and purpleheart, and that BC was scared that they would be able to find enough purpleheart if they chose to produce that pipe.
I enclosed a long letter about the pipe design, expressing that it needn't be purpleheart, that is just what I happened to use, but to no avail. Chuck Stanion basically said there was almost zero liklihood that it was read. Communicating with BC was a VERY difficult things, according to Chuck. At any rate, losing to Rolando is no terrible demise, and my hat is off to him and his winning pipe. He is an amazing pipe maker.
It was fun to have participated in the contest. I look forward to the next!
BTW, I won the Butera Meerschaum as my runner-up prize.
Thanks again.
