37th Anniversary

Post by sweetandsour » Wed Dec 09, 2015 4:30 pm

My wife and I enjoyed a nice meal last night at the Republic Steakhouse in College Station. She got a chicken-fried filet mignon, and I got the New York strip with a glass of Pinot Noir. We split a slice of key lime cheesecake, and each had a cup of strong coffee, before heading out to Waco for the night.

Today has been a day for shopping, and nice lunch at a spot called the Olive Branch. We thought about finding the restaurant where the bikers had the shootout earlier this year, just for the novelty, but then decided nah ... tuna sandwich and broccoli cheese soup was good where we were. For anyone that may, per chance, watch the Fixer Upper show on HGTV ... yes, we did visit their shop "at the silos", which was fun, although the "stars" weren't there today.

No tobacco shop found yet; but I'm looking.

If you are in Waco, you have to go to the Texas Rangers Museum. Do like I did and ask for Walker.

Umm... chicken fried... filet mingon?? Really? Is it delicious? Just curious. Oh and congrats on a long and (I am guessing and hoping) happy marriage!

It looked great, especially with the gravy ... and mashed potatoes and green beans on the side. I intended to try a bite or two, but was already having a tough time devouring all of the steak on my own plate and still have room for a bite of cheesecake. But if we ever go there again, I'm getting it.

When we walked in, those in front of us had reservations. I asked the hostess if reservations were required; and when she replied "strongly suggested", I asked if my wife and I could somehow slip in for an anniversary dinner. She smiled and said to give her a few minutes; and within 10 minutes, led us to a nice table for two in a cozy corner. I guess she couldn't resist my old jeans, boots, and ball cap.

BTW, UB, we're just down the street from the Texas Rangers museum ... thanks for the heads-up; I'll be sure to ask for Walker!
