Tatanka's visit with Harry

Post by Tatanka » Fri Jan 22, 2016 7:34 pm

My wife joined me today to visit a friend we met in church a few years ago - - we no longer attend there, but we became close with he and his wife, Lorene, shared lunches together, conversations, praying together, visiting their home.

Lorene, his wife of 40 years died suddenly this past Thanksgiving morning. For about a year, he said she had said she just didn't feel well. Then she started having pains in her neck (where the large artery runs to the brain), and the back of her head, and her arms. All the doctors would say was for her to take over the counter pain meds. No doctor wanted to take a closer look, like a Cat scan or MRI or ultra sound.

On Thanksgiving morning Harry was outside working on sprinkler heads. He came in and Lorene was in the kitchen. she said she wasn't feeling well and wanted to lay down on the bed and rest. Harry returned to his sprinkler work outside for about twenty minutes. When he came back into the house he could not find his wife anywhere! He finally found her slumped on the floor in the closet. I assume it may have been a walk in closet - something we have never enjoyed. He dialed 911, but it was too late. Evidently she was deceased by the time he found her.

We left angered over the doctor(s) to whom she had gone with her complaints! It is possible, had they discovered she was ready to have an anureism they probably could have saved her life.

Understandably, Harry is having a very hard time with this loss. I must see if I can visit him more often. I volunteered to help him with any work projects around his house, or to go shopping with him. If he were a pipe smoker I could just come and sit with him. He probably will not phone. So I must look in on him soon again. I closed our visit praying for he and his family. I've written to his daughter and asked if we might visit she and her three daughters, all young granddaughters, for whom Lorene made many dresses and taught them piano. Just hard! Very hard. The word ALONE can be a powerful, emotional producing word when you lose your life mate and are A L O N E! Except for the presence of the Guardians and the Spirit of the Lord, who has promised never to leave us. I pray Harry will sense and feel and realize the Divine Presence holding him.

Harry worked in the Probation Dept. of the local Police Dept. Thank you for your prayers.
Soli Deo Gloria!

I'm grateful you were there for him. I'll keep lifting him up.

This is wisdom in action. Deep, biblical wisdom.

Perhaps best told in the Book of Job, as Job's three friends came and sat with him. No speaking, but simply being present so Job would not have to suffer alone.
Job 2 wrote:11 Now when Job's three friends heard of all this evil that had come upon him, they came each from his own place, Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite. They made an appointment together to come to show him sympathy and comfort him. 12 And when they saw him from a distance, they did not recognize him. And they raised their voices and wept, and they tore their robes and sprinkled dust on their heads toward heaven. 13 And they sat with him on the ground seven days and seven nights, and no one spoke a word to him, for they saw that his suffering was very great.
Eventually, of course, they talked. When Job was ready to talk, they were there for him. But the greatest act of compassion was simply being present for their friend as he endured his loss.
