It sinks in. . .sometimes

Post by FredS » Tue Feb 09, 2016 6:04 pm

Raising kids can be one of the most frustrating things in the world. It can also be one of the most rewarding. All the stuff you do and say sinks in. It doesn't always show, but it's in there. Here's a text from daughter #3.

Fred, praise to you and your wife, for your obvious diligence, love and success in the raising of your children. "3 minutes before it's due" ? ... been there and done that!

It's important to note though, that "good Christian" parents can also raise up adults who stray. We had some mighty struggles - I mean MIGHTY STRUGGLES - with one of our kids as a teen/young adult. I know others on this forum have been through similar and worse. As long as you're not raising your kids in a crack house you can't ultimately be blamed (nor credited) with how they turn out. Yes the environment matters - a lot - but kids are people too and they alone are responsible for what they do or don't do. For those who go wrong, sometimes the best we can hope for is that some night, when they're strung out and at the end of their rope, they remember something they learned in Sunday school, or at bedtime prayers, or around your dinner table, and that they find hope in that and in Him.

3 minutes to spare, and she wanted to share it with Dad.

Didja notice the name of the text group my kids created for the three girls, Mrs FredS and I? "I'm related to these freaks". Oh yeah, we share the same sense of humor. Mrs FredS doesn't understand us sometimes.

Mrs. Del has the same problem with her guys. We season dinner with hot sauces, and she has her lonely bottle of ketchup.

We say that it's because she married into this family.
