My mom's med evac...

Post by JMG » Sun Aug 07, 2016 8:07 pm

9 am Sunday...IV antibiotics at our mission's clinic to treat infected sores. No big deal. Still thinking she will be able to fly back to the States as scheduled the next day.
Image

Steadily worsened throughout the day. Sat levels dropped. 2 am Monday loading her into the mission plane to fly her to Port Moresby.

Apx 6 am in Port Moresby putting in a central line.
Image

Large span of hours of no photos as my mom worsened and was in terrible shape. I wasn't sure she would make it.

Emergency med evac team arrived, intubated her, and transported her to the airport to med evac her to Brisbane, AU.

On the way to Brisbane...
Image

Landed Brisbane around 8 pm Monday, met on the tarmac by ambulance...

After spending a night in the waiting room (not typical to sleep there apparently like it would be in the States), then two nights in a hotel, a local church came together and one of their members provided me with this flat to stay in free of charge (later my entire family and mom stayed here until this morning)

After three or four days in ICU and in very bad shape, mom was extubated and put in a normal ward. After a day or so she could talk a bit and skype with my dad...

Onyx and I having a great time together with burgers, beer and pipes...
Image

Got permission to take my mom to the coffee shop right outside the hospital and ended up stealing her away for a few miles throughout the city...

Quay River Bridge...

That local church ended up keeping us stocked with groceries...
Image

After dealing with everything by myself for a week I was finally joined by my wife and daughters the day mom was discharged...
Image

The local church even bought us tickets to the Australia Zoo!

There's much to be said, but nothing I feel up to telling with the exception of that I'm thankful God chose to heal my mom and that he allowed us to experience His goodness through a very loving local body of believers.

I remember the first post about infection and thinking no big deal. What a stressful time it must have been for you guys. Great about the local church! Praying for your time at home.

I knew things were getting serious over there. Prayers were going up for you guys. I am SO thankful that God healed your mom. And I am so touched by the local church taking care you you guys. I know that took a lot out of you guys. Praying that God will give you peace and that your trip back to the states will be productive and easy.

Thanking God with you.
