Well, this will be another year ...

... That I don't read the Bible through. I'm reading it daily, but not straight through. I never have. I guess I get too distracted. Yeah I know it's only Sept., but I won't catch up at this point. But how meaningful is it anyway? To read the Bible straight through.
I'm old but I'm happy. (Most of the time.)

I've read the entire Bible but have done in about 3 months. First time was sort of by accident. I've found doing so is great for context, perspective, and big picture. Not so sure that would be the case for me if I read the Bible in it's entirety over 12 month vs 3 months.

My family has a supersition about reading the Bible too much. A second cousin got his PhD in theology and few years later had a meltdown that everyone blamed on reading the Bible too much. Scrupulosity - a form of OCD about salvation worry and the unpardonable sin runs in the family. I've been through it and am still going through it. My family told me to limit the amount of heavy reading I do.

Superstitions are anti-biblical.

Me too. I did it 5 years in row, using a different translation each year (KJV, NKJV, NIV, ESV, NASB).
It sounded better when the voices in my head were saying it.

Yeah, it always struck me as odd when a person began to preach about every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God... and going by scripture alone... then it turned out they hadn't actually read it.

More to the spirit of the question... I don't think a calendar year is particularly significant to this. Keep going, and if it takes 18 months or more, then fine. But I think that we should all read the Bible.

I've never read it straight through cover to cover like a novel. I've been here and there in it ever since I could read, and I study it daily.
But I'm inspired now to do it in the next 3 months. I'll read it straight through.

Im sure you know that they make a version without all of the numbering systems. This might help you to approach it as more of a book than a collection of books.

Our church started a church wide read the Bible through in a year. We started in September. Just read the ten commandments.

It is helpful to have a timeline and attention that all the folks are working towards.

One doesn't have to start in January...

And they made an app for the church that includes the reading program and Bible readings in the app. That's really cool! (For those who can read on a smart device).

Praying for hunger for God's word to permeate this fellowship. I have read it through with multiple references for commentary several times and grow in faith with every passing chapter. God's word has the power to transform, and most importantly for a wretch like me, to renew your mind.
