That pipe very closely resembles a Stanwell shape 63 Flame Grain that I have, sans bamboo, but otherwise I don't have any good guesses.
Not a Stanwell. (Also, not a Danish artisan)

Whoever made it found themselves a beautiful root and did it up a proper job. I'm not much of a grain hound and much prefer blasts meself, but it's seeing grain like that which can make me go gaga.

A right nice lookin' pipe it is.

Though not Danish, this pipe maker did travel to Denmark and worked with Sixten Ivarsson.

That makes total sense because the Stanwell 63 shape was also designed by Sixten.

I was gonna guess Brad Pohlmann but after briefly reading his bio, it does not seem to be the case.

What is the country of origin for the maker?

Kazuhiro Fukuda?

I'll guess Tsuge as a start.

They have borrowed quite liberally from the Stanwell shape chart in many cases.

Tsuge is the correct answer.

Nope.

The maker is very highly regarded in Japan, but isn't really a household name over here.

The makers work doesn't appear in the collection of this Japanese blogger:

I looked up Rasmussen and up popped another lovely grained pipe, had to link to it!

Thanks for the reminder,
almost forgot!

This maker was an apprentice in Sixten Ivarsson's workshop.

But not being well known here is throwing me.

Not Jess,
but the makers first name is 4 letters long too.

And,
the comic strip in above post offers a pretty good clue! :P

Jørn Micke!
Great clue.

Yup, most of his pipes were sold in Japan . . .
And I love the fact that it was fishing, not pipes, that initially created the friendship with Sixten.

Excellent angling Durango!

In my head it's always "mickey" and I was hoping it was close to the proper pronunciation at least!
I liked how he sort of branded his work Micke Make, echoing Barling's Make, but much more mellifluous.

I also think it's cool how he would stamp his stems too, I wish more artisans would do such things like that or a logo.
His method was especially neat because the numbers would line up much like how "matching numbers" are in the car world!

ImageImage

It's the little small details like that which make collectors more excited enthused I think.

He even utilized creative packaging too, making minimalist collage boxes, a nice touch not often seen with artisan makers.

His most famous work, or most notorious, is sly and cheeky,
and also quite playfully fun.
Seen here as interpreted by Tokutomi and Kurusu, it has become known as the "micke shape".

Definitely "cheeky."

Okay . .

Give me a little time.
I'll try to find a favorite maker about whom I know a little.
