Halcyon Wax For Finishing Rusticated Briar?

Post by Goose55 » Mon Jun 19, 2017 11:06 am

I searched in Pipe Rack thread titles for Halcyon Wax, but could not find anything.

Has anyone here used Halcyon Wax for finishing/ shining rusticated briar? I have an estate pipe I stripped and am very interested in this.

I use both Paragon and Halcyon II. I've used them for years. A little goes a long way.

Buy the Halcyon and use it. It can be used on both smooth and rough finishes. Paragon is only to be used on smooth pipes. It will leave a white film in pits and cracks on rusticated and sandblasted pipes.

Just wax on a small bit. Let dry. Buff off. You might use a soft bristled brush to get into nooks and crannies. Repeat as many times as makes you happy.

This is great, Cleon! I have placed the order for the Halcyon II. Thank you!

So Cleon was present while you had conversation with durangopipe about him? Why would you have to tell Cleon about it if he was there?

Goose and I had been PMing about his pipe project.
I suggested carnuba which has worked well for me.

Goose found Halcyon online and started a thread asking about it.
Cleon posted a well-informed reply and I PMed Goose telling him to listen to Cleon because he knows what he's talking about and Halcyon sounds like a lot less work than carnuba. I don't have any experience with it.

I would have preferred for the three of us to have had this discussion at our local Irish pub over a pint of Guinness; hopefully, we will sometime down the road.

Good gravy. You might be more earnest than Goose, if such a thing was possible.

Do you honestly believe anyone thinks the two of you are plotting skullduggery against Cleon?

No.
I just didn't want to leave Goose hanging.

Most of the last PMing from Goose was about what a wonderful resource this forum is!

Still hoping to have these conversations over a Guinness one day.
Or a trout Stream!

This thread gives me a warm fuzzy. Bro hugs for everyone.

Just kidding. There's no way I'd hug Fred.

This, plus one small dollop of animal fat.

WRT Cleon, I reserve comment.

I received the amazing Halcyon Wax yesterday and went to work cleaning and de-funking my briar of skin oils and grime, and then dried them in the Sonoran Desert "perfect" heat. Here are the results of Halcyon. My (so far) most favorite pipe,... a giant Preben Holm Ben Wade Brand, with bird's eye grain jumping off the bottom of the bowl....

Those round and some bumpy circles on the bottom of the bowl and shank,.. small and large, weren't clearly seen until this last deep cleaning and several coats of Halcyon wax.

It's sandblasted birdseye grain on the bottom of this densely grained Preben Holm Ben Wade
