Threads That I've Stayed Off

The part of the church where the silliest things happen. Conversations that sound like they belong in the youth room will be moved here.

Um, how exactly does one avoid getting between oneself and someone else?

I avoid the Theology section. There are a lot of guys on here smarter than I, and I go by the adage "better to keep your mouth closed and have people think you a fool, than to open it and prove it." :)

K.B.E.? Surely not a Knight Commander of the British Empire. Kiwi Buyers of Europe perhaps?

E.C. - Extra Crispy? Extraordinarily Cranky?

R.S.E.C. - Repulsive Soup Eaters Chairman? Representative of the Smoke Enders of Canada?

Am I even close?

Morely.. If you're reading this, forgive PP and RM, for they know not what they do.

Oh, and please bring "The Reckoning" that you so often threatened us with!

I for one look forward to it.

Really Jocose, if you're going to address the almighty Morley you should at least show some respect. This familiar approach to the all glorious personage is only worthy of someone with 'pig' in his avatar name. Seriously.

Now witness:

All glorious Morley, bringer of the reckoning, forgive we petition the ignorance of PP and RM for they know not the nature of the grave insult to your august personage they proffer when they insult your inspiring memory.

Now please forbear on our untoward intrusions into your world and just this one time bring the reckoning that we might bask in the wonder of your acerbic wit. Your humble servants await your presence on this forum with bated breath and hearts aflutter.

Sincerely,
Your toadying sychophants

Interestingly my anti-sentiment to the ever present "missing" and homage to AMJ threads have been interpreted as an anti-AMJ crime. This pattern is largely aligned with liberal extremist tactics to alienate those outside their circle of way-wards. Surely I must be a hateful and empty person guilty of a multitude of hate crimes.

I am not anti-AMJ, quite the contrary as I have consumed and appreciate his work in both pen and theatre.

I do not take issue with AMJ. I take issue with "YOU PEOPLE". Perhaps my hateful acts against the populous of his faithful is an act against he himself (yes I used a lower case "h")? Would he claim you ninny's?

If that means what I think it means then I'd have to agree. And even if it means something totally different I think I'll agree just to piss people off.

Some threads are so closely tied to an article of faith that, if you don't have it, you've really got nothing to say.

But one of the great things about Christianity is that we can discuss issues rationally. In Islam, you can't do that - there is no questioning permitted, doctrine needs have no bearing on reality, it is simply imposed upon it. But in Christianity there's plenty that can be understood and discussed on its merits without anyone needing to resort to "Thus saith the Lord". (Obviously, once someone gets to the point of making that claim, there's not much more to discuss - you either believe it or don't.)

On the issue of eternity, I once badly hurt a young woman who had lost a loved one. I figured (at the time) that my doctrine on what happens after you die was true and there was no need for me to be hesitant or apologize for truth. So I said what I believed, and I now I only hope that the woman has since found someone with greater wisdom and compassion (which doesn't narrow it down much). So I'm not so hasty to jump in now with my beliefs about eternity. I don't know what eternity holds, and my best contribution is to love and support those who are here now. Some debates are fun and enlightening, some debates are reckless with the human soul. It's hard to know when to stop sometimes.

At this point, I believe I'll part company with Onyx and stay off this thread as well.
