Toilet Paper Inequity
As exposés go, it may not rank up there with the Pentagon Papers, but student journalists have captured the attention of Ryerson University, in Canada, and national coverage there with an investigation of differential toilet papers.

Under the headline "Two-ply toilet paper creates two-tiered Ryerson," The Ryerson Eyeopener reported that bathrooms throughout the university are stocked with one-ply. The exception, the newspaper said, is in two floors of the administration building, which house the offices of president, provost, and vice presidents for administration and finance, research and innovation, and university advancement.

Natural Disaster: 5.8 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Montana, Raising Supervolcano Concerns
Yellowstone National Park, which covers parts of Wyoming, Idaho and Montana, lies on top of a supervolcano that could effectively wipe out the United States if it were to explode. The last time it did, 640,000 years ago, it expelled 240 cubic miles (think about that) of rocky debris into the sky.

Early Thursday morning, residents of southern Montana feared the worst when a 5.8 magnitude earthquake shook the region. Though its epicenter was only 230 miles from Yellowstone, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) says the seismic activity was not irregular, and the supervolcano is not expected to erupt anytime soon.

"The location and focal mechanism solution of this earthquake are consistent with right-lateral faulting in association with faults of the Lewis and Clark line, a prominent zone of strike-slip, dip slip and oblique slip faulting trending east-southeast from northern Idaho to east of Helena, Montana, southeast of this earthquake," said the USGS.

Nevertheless, people were concerned. …

Wisconsin company to install rice-sized microchips in employees
A Wisconsin technology company is offering its employees microchip implants that can be used to scan into the building and purchase food at work. Whether or not to get a chip is up to the employee to decide.

2 gurneys, 1 occupied, fall out of coroner’s van into traffic, police say
Two gurneys, including one that was occupied by a deceased person, fell out of the back of a coroner’s van and into traffic Monday afternoon in Olympia, police say.
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are not.

Coroner deputies Larry, Moe, and Curly were taken in for questioning where they subsequently confessed to being distracted by a "lovely dame" that crossed their path.

Self-Driving Cars Can Be Hacked By Just Putting Stickers On Street Signs
Image

Car Hacking is a hot topic, though it's not new for researchers to hack cars. Previously they had demonstrated how to hijack a car remotely, how to disable car's crucial functions like airbags, and even how to steal cars.

But the latest car hacking trick doesn't require any extra ordinary skills to accomplished. All it takes is a simple sticker onto a sign board to confuse any self-driving car and cause accident.

[…]

By simply adding "Love" and "Hate" graphics onto a "STOP" sign (as shown in the figure), the researchers were able to trick the autonomous car’s image-detecting algorithms into thinking it was just a Speed Limit 45 sign in 100 percent of test cases. …
