Rawr~Mead and why you should be drinking it

The part of the church where the silliest things happen. Conversations that sound like they belong in the youth room will be moved here.

I found a simple recipe for it.

Primary
12 lbs honey
96 oz blackcurrant concentrate
water to 5 gal
k1v-1116

Secondary
back sweeten at racking with 6 lbs honey
oak chips

Got to watch this stuff though. Blackcurrant has a high vitamin C content that makes it tart.

Be advised: There may be mead-making soon.

That is all.

Is there a recommended mead for purchase if one were too lazy to make it.

It looks like there are at least three meaderies in Virginia: Blacksnake Meadery, Black Heath Meadery, and Silver Hand Meadery. In Maryland, there is Orchard Cellar Meadery and Winery. I know nothing of these meaderies but I would start there.

Cool. The MD one is right up the road... but $20-$30 for 375mL is outta my league. :(

If it is close. just go on a tasting night. Most have a tasting room or events once a month or so where you can sample.

Once upon a time I knew a bee keeper. His wife had a thing for me and would bring me copious quantities of honey. I made and drank a great deal of mead during those days.

Those days are long past and I have neither the money nor the inclination to procure that amount of honey. The cost of procuring mead ready made is similarly prohibitive. For now, I'll stick to beer.
