Sans Moderation

Post by hugodrax » Thu Jun 08, 2017 8:29 am

We can talk without fear of the whole Jewish nation,
Its past, its present, and its future iteration.
It is even kosher to poke fun of their usury,
As long as your mention is purely allusory.

And Tuttle and Wos, sometimes off again then on again,
Can fight theologically surprisingly ad hominem,
There's the matter of play, brought forward by Fred,
A topic quite quickly killed quite thoroughly dead.

And then there's Dan and his tales of Moslems perfidious,
In tones a la Stormfront, innocuously insidious,
Tales of clitori brutally severed,
In hopes of inciting Crusade manfully endeavored.

Did you know that TNLP with Del disagrees?
From the top of his head to his knobby knees!
And Onyx can be quite the pontificator,
With pages upon pagers I might not read later.

So really, quite clearly, nothing's changed a jot,
From time to time we do this, this intrinsic rot,
Is part of our nature since the fall of the first man,
And there's nothing to do but fight it, the best that we can.

Doesn't poetry, by its nature and definition, imply its own moderation of sorts? Is it sans, or no?

I read this in a beatniks voice while playing a bongo.

On the one hand, your statement indicates an active and delving mind. Very good. On the other hand, the failure to see that very play on words in action suggests a third or fourth rate masters program.

That could be fun. I wrote it in a Shel Silverstein voice. It's a form of divine play. Ask FredS.

I am only 4 days into the program, so it might be a little early to judge the quality of the program. Further, it is a counseling program and not English Lit or under water basket weaving or some other such nonsense.

I would further submit to the judges, that by your own response to another poster, you do indeed imply moderation.

Wow. We defined basket weaving a little differently back in my day. Then again, half the degrees available today didn't exist then.

It is "sans." Without. As in our behavior once moderation is removed.

I know what sans means. I credit my high school drama teacher for that.

My point, and I apologize for not being more clear earlier, is that language does not exist without moderation. Perhaps I should be even more focused. Communication through words, whether spoken, written, or as a song does not occur without moderation. Moderation, in this regard, is the tone and tempo of that which is being communicated.

In any case, I did enjoy your poem.

And took it a lot more seriously than I did! But yes, I see your point. Perhaps I should have said "Without Moderators." But doggeral doesn't bear serious thought.

This world needs more counselors. I try all the time when one of my clients successfully kicks his or her habit to steer them into that career path. If you help put one life onto a meaningful track, you've done more than most of us. If I was wearing a hat, I'd doff it in your general direction.
