The meaning of life is to eat a good meal once in a while, read a good book now and then, deliver the occasional wedgie unto those who need one, and hydrate. That's about it.

I answered
my wife’s eyes,
which was true and big enough. They
see the rest and the rest rests in them;
like the archetypal tortoise who
bears the universe on his back
the splendor of it all
contained in the carapace
it is there in her eyes—
Charlie Parker, a child’s laughter
mountain and creek, the sweet
water that runs cold and clear
runs in the deep interstices of reposed
stone between the summits
(it is these spaces that define us)
Oh, her eyes!
