Thanks for the continued prayers, all. The person involved is finally getting the dedicated help they need: they checked into an inpatient rehab program Thursday morning.
I just got off the phone with them. They sound so much better and have decided to stay another week while their ongoing blood tests and meds get sorted out. Thankfulness abounds...

I pray they stay there. This seems really short.

Indeed. Encourage them to stay as long as they can if you're able.

Praying again.

I missed this thread's reappearance last week.

I've kept this in mind since we talked in Chicago. It has been a long summer for you. You are a good man for sticking this out.

A good friend went through this with his son a couple of years ago. It was a long year of struggles and setbacks before he got turned around and on his feet.

Praying for patience.

They're closing in on their "90 day" pin. Tomorrow, I've been honored with the invitation to accompany them to an open meeting at the facility in which they rehabbed. This should prove... interesting. I'm not sure exactly what to expect, but I've no doubt it won't be trivial...

I'm not sure I can express in words what I saw and felt, but I'll say that I feel privileged to have been able to share the time. We had a good talk on the drive back and will talk again after I process through things.

This Saturday will be a 'major event' on the order of the triggers that pushed them back into the bottle many months ago. This isn't an event that can be avoided; they need to attend. We'll be there together (I'll be taking photos), and they've already been warned that at the first sign of stress I will throw them over my shoulder and carry them out the door and the world can kiss my keister if they don't like it**. I'm praying for their strength and my discernment. This will be an emotional event for all involved (yes, even me), and marking "the line" will be difficult.

** (I really don't think I'll have to go to those extremes, but I need the strength and resolution to do so if necessary).
