I purchased four 2oz bags of baccy at the Galtinburlier last week. One was a Virginia blend called Newfound, one was an English blend called Smoky Smokies (or something like that), and then 2 different aromatics: Pistachio and Mountain Vine. The latter of the two aro's is the only thing I've smoked so far and it's got a hint of raspberry. The Smoky Smokies is going to see its way through a few different pipes tonight and tomorrow to see where it likes to play. Same with the Newfound.

Just got my sample order from The Country Squire this afternoon (very quick shipping as I ordered Saturday morning). I ordered three to try: White Rose, Parson's Blend and Rivendell. Taking a break to go try the White Rose right now.

I got a couple oz of Cary Grants blend, and a tin of Father Dempsey blend. Received it today, and plan to try the Grant blend this afternoon. (The tin is dated 3/2018, so that's different.)
I'm old but I'm happy. (Most of the time.)

A sample of McClelland 40th arrived today from a CPS friend and I piped it this evening. All I have to say is "Oh, My! What a a heavenly Virginia Flake!" Never tasted anything like it. It immediately sent me on a hunt to find 40th on ebay and I found what at this late stage of the game seemed like a good deal, so I got 5 more 100g tins. Embarrassed to say what I had to pay for those, but glad I have them.

Tin date is 3/26/18 to be exact, so the presumption is they took the "out of stock" bulk and tinned it up. Whatever. I've ordered a few more.

I was going to place the order for these at Smoking Pipes but I see that they are now adding sales tax whereas 4Noggins does not, so 4N's got my business. Pipes & Cigars are back ordered on a lot of these, too. These are some of GL Peases's "Fog City Series" Virginias and VA/Pers our dearly departed Rusty had told me about. I am re-visiting the Laurel H eighths, Fillmore, and Embarcadero to get another feel for them. I've had one tin of the U***n Square, also, and it may be a keeper; has some of the sweet and sour tang of a McCl Virginia I love. Montgomery and Telegraph Hill I have not had before so we shall see. Added another 500g box of GH Brown Flake to get free shipping....

G.L. Pease: MONTGOMERY 2oz
G.L. Pease: TELEGRAPH HILL 2oz
G.L. Pease: LAUREL HEIGHTS 2oz
G.L. Pease: FILLMORE 2oz
G.L. Pease: EMBARCADERO 2oz
G.L. Pease: U***n SQUARE 2oz (2 tins, to get more familiar with it.
Gawith Hoggarth Bulk: BROWN FLAKE UNSCENTED

Guess not.

Anyway, my Pease tins and box of Gawith Hoggarth arrived today. The GLP Embarcadero is front and center because I noticed the tin swollen, meaning lots of good things have been going on in this tin dated 6/2017. Like fermentation & aging. So I cracked open the tin and it is presently decanting; and will be for a week or so before I smoke it. I initially leave the tin open to the air for about 1/2 hour, then replace the lid with a doubled layer of tin foil underneath to help keep it fresh. Then for a week to 10 days, every other day or so, I remove the lid for several minutes. The tobacco is A LOT better after that. It completely halts the fermentation process. Smoking fermenting tobacco is not a good idea.

Three 8 ounce tins of GLP Embarcadero from 4Noggins which was in stock, had the best price, and w/ no sales tax. And free Priority Mail shipping! I like this blend. Has a McClelland tang, and Red Virginia sweet and sour flavor that I crave. Having a supply of this will help keep me from burnin' through my McCl stash too quickly...

On the way, three more eight ounce tins of GLP Embarcadero for a total of 6, or 3 pounds. To me, it's that good of a Red Virginia, and with a very similar McCl sweet/ sour tang. Embarcadero was introduced in July 2007, so it's after the FDA Deeming Date of March '07, and so could well soon vanish from retail shelves.
