Tabac Manil - Le Petit Robin
A friend of mine brought me a brick of this stuff. I just now got around to opening it because I was in the mood for a good shag. Let me tell you, the cut on this tobacco is extremely fine, so much so that it looks a lot like moss. The flavor profile of the tobacco is sweet, earthy, grassy, and subtly floral. The room aroma is floral (my wife loved it), but not overwhelmingly so. After about 5 bowls, I'm in love with the stuff. I could smoke it all day, every day and be just fine with doing so.
Those of you who like shag cuts, try it.

The word "floral" always scares me. I don't care too much for the perfume/soap flavors, and it really ghosts a pipe. I'm trying to de-ghost one of my go-to pipes right now, to clear it from some G&H flakes I was trying.

It does not taste floral, just a hint of it in the room note.sweetandsour wrote: ↑Sat Mar 10, 2018 7:08 amThe word "floral" always scares me. Digging for a little more info on semois, of which the subject tobacco is reported to consist of 30 percent, I ran across this entertaining piece from the nyt. (There's a better way to structure that sentence I'm sure.)sweetandsour wrote: ↑Sat Mar 10, 2018 3:11 pmThanks, it's on my list.hugodrax wrote: ↑Sat Mar 10, 2018 8:59 amI think you'd really like it, sir.Joshoowah wrote: ↑Sat Mar 10, 2018 8:23 amIt does not taste floral, just a hint of it in the room note.sweetandsour wrote: ↑Sat Mar 10, 2018 7:08 amThe word "floral" always scares me. Great read on that article, thanks for that.
Now, could someone have told me about Le Petit Robin prior to my smoking pipes order last Tuesday. It goes to the wish list until the fall I guess.

VA-bur, super-fine cut. The reviews are more insightful than usual.
According to Pipes & Cigars, the box's label is "Pure Samois."

Sounds like goodness. Compare and contrast to G&H Balkan on the cut?
A brick, you say? How about a pinch here and there to see?

Grassy and floral are red flags to my tastes.
I am unsure what earthy means. I ascribe sweet to a Red to Orange VA bakky.
Tell me more of this earthy, please.

Ok, I pulled the trigger (to borrow the phrase from Hugo) on a brick of this. I've had one bowl, and so far I dont get the "sweet" part. "Earthy"? Perhaps, depending on your idea of earthy. It sort of triggers my old memories from 40 yrs ago of Five Brothers.
DL, you really want to try a bowl or two of this? Just let me know.

Now, to get the sweet? Pull once every thirty seconds. Don’t worry about relighting, it’s dry as a bone and will stay lit. Think angel’s kisses on your draws. Faint little puffs.
