Burley Flakes?

Post by JMG » Wed Jun 06, 2018 9:41 pm

Are there any bulk burleys in flake form that are sold in bulk that are any good?

I forget what it’s called, but that Burley flake that goose likes from GH is quite good. Brown unscented or something similar.

Normally I’d recommend C&D, but I don’t think they’re sold in bulk.

Not in bulk but, Solani Aged Burley Flake - Blend 656 is mighty high on the yummy scale.

I’m eager to try the new Mac Baren HH Burly Flake that is getting some great reviews. The pound box will be the customary $56 on Smoking Pipes and others.

Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. - Brown Flake (unscented). It is very very good but it's predominantly Virginia. Here's the breakdown...

83.5% blended African Virginias
12.5% Malawi burley, to give flavour and depth to the smoke, and
4% Malawi dark fired leaf

One TR reviewer summed up this blend pretty well when he wrote: " It's not the strongest horse in the barn, but's no Shetland Pony either." I've purchased many lots of this in 500g boxes and there's never been the slightest bit of Lakeland essence. Smokes best in a large wide chambered pipe.

C&D Burley Flakes knock me on my rear, but I bet if you call them directly they might sell it to you in bulk. They used to do special orders like that, but I dunno if things have changed.
