MB Plumcake...anyone smoking this?

Post by Bloodhound » Wed Aug 22, 2018 11:55 am

MB Plumcake is one I tried early on in my smoking. I wanted Navy Flake and the shop was out so they sold me Plumbcake as a suitable substitute. I don't know if it was. I remember smoking it fast and burning my tongue...I don't remember the taste much and have since moved away from most MB blends because they bite. I returned to Navy Flake, when I received some from my secret Santa a few years ago...it has mellowed with age and doesn't burn my tongue...or maybe I have learned to slow down with it. A

Anyway, there is a fair supply of Plumcake at the local shop and it has some age on it, but I can't remember if it was any good. I don't see it mentioned here much.

What are your thoughts on Plumcake?

I used to smoke it in college---head and shoulders above Sail Green and one of the better MacBaren blends IIRC.
I don't know how it ages though.
A close friend smoked Plumb Cake exclusively all through college and beyond.

I have a canister of Plumcake in the cellar.

Should I open it?

I smoked through a large tin of it one summer, a few years ago. It got better as it aged and dried out in the opened tin throughout the summer. The tendency to bite never dissipated, but it had good flavor and was a good relaxing smoke when taking my time and with something to drink alongside.
I'm old but I'm happy. (Most of the time.)

I enjoy it and I always have a tin around but, IMO, it doesn't age particularly well.

I often find that MacBaren tobaccos tend to bite me no matter how slowly I smoke them. Something they use as a topping may not agree with my tongue. I might still have to try Plumcake, simply based on the name.

I smoked some more MB Navy Flake last night...a known blend with a strong bite...It is older and it was smoked slowly and no bite for me...so I will try the Plumcake in the very near future and see how it goes.
