I've been racking my brain about pipe tobacco purchases I regret, but I do not think there has been a pipe tobacco I hated so much I could not finish. I must admit though most of my buys are either things that were recommended because someone knows my tastes or I'm re-buying a favorite.

The closest I can think of is the aforementioned and Davidoff's Scottish Mixture. It's just not good, at all, but I finished it anyway.

Now, ask me what tobacco I regret trying and it is most definitely Holger Danske's Original Orange. Thanks for that, Jruegg.

Velvet. Thought it would be as good as Prince Albert but not even close.

None, really.
All have been a learning experience.

My taste in tobacco is rather like my taste in pipes: eclectic. While I have a handful of favorites in each, I never really know when reaching for a pipe or a jar or tin of tobacco where my hand will land.

Variety, as they say, is the spice of life.

Smoking Ennerdale for the first time today. I got the tinned version, which appears to be somewhat of a broken flake cut. The tin note is pretty loud, but I'm enjoying the taste of it, and the room note is nice IMO. I liked it enough that I went back to my local tobacconist and bought the two remaining tins he had in stock. So far I've really enjoyed every Gawith Hoggarth blend I've smoked. If Ennerdale is the epitome of Lakeland, then I guess put me down as a Lakeland lover, lol.

I'm beginning to think I overdid it when I bought a full pound of Peter Stokkebye English Oriental Supreme. It's a decent blend, and I do enjoy smoking it, but in the time since I bought it I've found many blends that I enjoy a lot more. It was the first tobacco I ever smoked, and I rushed to stock up. Could be worse though - I could've bought a pound of 1Q or Autumn Evening. That would have been truly regrettable.

I regret purchasing too much english tobacco that has faded as I did not smoke it in time and it now has too much age on it.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I bought a bunch and then lost my taste for it.
Your mileage may vary, but...I've learned recently that I'm able to add tobaccos like black cavendish and burley to almost any blend and make it smokeable enough to my liking. I think this means my palate isn't great!
We have a similar approach. I'll mix OJK into almost anything to stretch or make a blend more palatable. Here lately I've been adding a pinch of Capt Black here and there, also.
I add perique to stuff

Peterson tobacco's have never agreed with me. Not sure why. It wasn't a pleasant early smoke.

I went back and forth with Peterson flakes several times over the years before it clicked. I don't know what the difference was, but it happened fast and now I love them.

I blame Jocose.

I can’t believe no one has mentioned Mixture 79 yet. Most disgusting, wretched excuse for pipe tobacco ever conceived to ghost a pipe with. Horrible. :barf2:
