GLP Triple Play

Post by Gabriel » Sat Apr 20, 2019 4:46 pm

It’s too early for a true review, but I did crack open my Triple Play last night. The sticker on the bottom of the tin indicated that it had been tinned last May, so that’s interesting.

I have enjoyed a few tins of JKP in the past and was expecting something similar. I might be remembering wrongly, but I was thinking the plug would dense and hard, like PPP. This was far springier, not quite a krumble kake, but not a hard, dense plug either.

It cut easily enough with a thin, sharp blade, although I imagine it would be difficult with anything other than a very sharp knife. I cut a couple slices appropriately 1/8-3/16” and then cut across those flakes to create some cubes. This is my favorite way to smoke dense or strong tobacco these days.

The cubes were put in a small pipe and smoked gently for nearly an hour. The dark VA’s and Kentucky make for a very satisfying smoke. I’m not really a Perique aficionado, so more time will be needed for a real review. If pushed hard this could be harsh or strong, but sipped slowly is was a full, enjoyable smoke. I very sparingly sipped some Laphroaig Quarter Cask with it.

This is now going on my TBS list. Sounds like something I'd enjoy.

I tend to find the doctrinal books often more helpful in devotion than the devotional books.... I believe that many who find that "nothing happens" when they sit down, or kneel down, to a book of devotion, would find that the heart sings unbidden while they are working their way through a rough bit of theology with a pipe in their teeth and a pencil in their hand.

And nice glass of scotch as well.

I ordered two tins of this based on this post. I also opened up a tin of Jack Knife Plug tonight. It's not that old, only a few months, but good grief that stuff is good. It is was so good that I ordered two 8 ounce cans of it. I hope the Triple Play is as tasty. Thanks for posting this.

Nice knife. I've carried its twin for about 25 years.

They are nice knives and inexpensive too. My preacher gave me one a few years ago with the carbon steel blade. I think they are made in France if I remember correctly.
