Schaeffer is uber cool!
I'm currently reading several books that I intend to never finish...
Richard Baxter's the Reformed Pastor
John Bunyan the Pilgrim's Progress
These works are ongoing and have such good stuff in them that they MUST be read over and over and over...
I intend to re-read Gary D. Long's Definite atonement very soon...
I just finished the Silver Chair by Lewis...
I sorrow, though, that my bible reading has been somewhat fragmented. Long days and early mornings are no excuse, but that is my excuse anyways...and having 2 very needy children...
I had been doing M'Chene's (sp?) 4 chapters a day plus trying to read 7 chapters of a book of the bible every day for 30 days...this was recommended to me to become very familiar with the books of the bible. I have made a valiant attempt but unfortunately I've not kept up with my intentions. God help me to get back on track...cause when I am reading lots of scripture and not just a psalm at the end of a long day, I experience much blessing...if I want to feel close to God, then I must spend time in the Scriptures...if I want to feel disconnected from the Lord, then I must make excuses and read as little as possible. What a strange fellow I am to choose the later on a continual basis...
Love,
Dave

exellent!
very cool selection of books, Jonathan.
...James White will be debating Shelby "the Happy Heretic" Spong...Kudos to James White because all I'd be able to do if I met Spong would be to repeat the scripture, 1 John 2:19
"They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us."

Is James White the same fellow who stands so strongly against the "KJV only" crowd? Because if he is, he wrote a killer book (which I don't have nor can I remember the name of because I gave it away to a KJV only person and I think they burned it) that very concisly and logically deals with the issue.

yep...
I once held to the KJV only...now I'm a NKJV only...all other versions are corrupt and were translated by Lesbians...
James White is pretty cool and yes, he did write the excellent book on the KJV only controversy. He is still being lambasted by a group of KJV onlyers in Texas (ithink that's the place...). James White is also a Reformed Baptist so as far as I'm concerned he is "bang on" in the rest of his theology as well.. I have heard that he is also a body builder of sorts, so he has good theology and a good body! Good for him...If I had a dollar for every pudgy pastor I've known, I'd be rich!
here is an interesting body building fact...
John Owen actually was known to work out...first thing in the morning, he would take several mill stones and cast them about. I heard he could bench press 4 Arminians at once! hee hee!!
love,
Dave

I have two that I'm reading simultaniously, FUNNY LETTERS FROM FAMOUS PEOPLE edited by Charles Osgood. That's self explanatory. And CHILDREN PLAYING BEFORE A STATUE OF HERCULES a collection of short stories by different authors edited by David Sedaris.

Hmmmnnn??? Where is the moderator to send all these extraneous posts to the youth room??? Geezers such as myself, just feel blood pressure raising. Anyway....
Current read: HEAVENLY DATE (AND OTHER FLIRTATIONS) by Alexander McCall Smith. A quirky book of short stories w/ the common theme of dating.
I am very thankful my dating days are over. Except for going out w/ the Mrs. Does that count as a date?

i've been reading the politics of jesus by john howard yoder (again) and also the priestly kingdom by john howard yoder (superb collection of really tough slogging type essays). I recently was reading the word made strange by john milbank...wow...there's some convoluted theological writing. I was also reading "not the way it's supposed to be" by cornelius plantinga jr., which was fascinating and very informative.
Dad always thought laughter was the best medicine, which I guess is why several of us died of tuberculosis.
