Monsoon clouds appeared for the first time this morning in the east, and from hereon out this summer our temps will be moderated by this "change in wind."

Still hot and dry.
Still in an “exceptional” drought.
416 Fire is still burning - it’s at 53,000 acres.

But Goose’s monsoon is supposed to arrive here this weekend!

Heavy rains all day. All the local 4th festivals are canceled or downsized. My smoker sits cold and unattended. Instead of smoking a pork butt I'm smoking a cigar in the garage watching the water fall from the sky.

It could be worse.

Big storm early this morning. Check out the sunrise right before the storm hit. This was the North horizon at 4:40 this morning.

It’s sunny and 77 degrees on a Friday afternoon in Wisconsin.

Perfect weather for honeydew chores.

Our power went down here in this part of town a couple hours ago, and on a day that is 108 degrees. They have a enormous generator at the public school gymnasium and that's where a lot of folk go. I guess at some point they have to put their refrigerated/ frozen food in a cooler with ice. As for me, I thank God for the new natural gas powered Generac that came on automatically and it's powering the house and A/C.

Power was restored about 90 minutes ago after a 3 hour outage.

Here's a line of monsoon thunderstorms running north/ south that brewed up yasterday afternoon. All the way up from Puerto Penasco, MX. These storms hit Organ Pipe Cactus Natl Monument pretty hard but went in a NW direction mostly skirting us. This morning was great to bicycle in with clouds mostly blocking the desert sun.

This will be my last 416 Fire Post . . .

The fire is smoldering a bit on the leading edges, but those places are now far from any structures, and it is raining over the fire during the afternoon so it is likely the fire will be extinguished by the change in weather.

This is the last fire progression map that will be posted by Portland NIMO (National Incident Management Organization) who took over for the Forest Service Type 1 team when the NFS team timed out.

There have now been several more large fires in Colorado, and resources are being relocated.

Thanks for all the thoughtful words and prayers.

Lots of power outages recently due to monsoon cells all around. Was awakened a couple times last night by distant BOOMS of thunder and this morning awoke to find the huge wooden back gates blown open into the alley. Monsoon has made it's mark on time but also with notoriety

I've dumped a total of 14" of rain out of my gauge over the past six days. And more rain is predicted for this week.

And so you live in a very green place. Here, we are mostly brown, but they call the Sonoran Desert a green desert. But last couple years has been very dry. Last year I think we only had maybe 4 inches total for the year. And we had a very dry start to this year. But monsoon has made a spectacular introduction right away. Maybe we will be green again soon.

I use reverse osmosis water that I buy from a self service machine at Holt's Shell. I fill up two 5 gallon jugs and it lasts a little while. Lately, when I've run out I used the tap water and it was the worst I have ever tasted. This tells me that the aquifer from which are large wells pump our water from is very likely diminished. But we had a humdinger of a storm last evening with a lot of precip in those hills north of here. 4 - 5 inches dropped up there. Most of all that runs down into the aquifers, so it was good to see. Very good. Thank God.

10 am sunny and only 84. Nice. Big storms last evening all over the place brought the cooler weather. Monsoon season is good.
