I saw a projection earlier today that it was supposed to miss us completely.

Been a little warm but the next couple few days a high of only 90, which is quite cool for late August. We will enjoy it !!

Quite a bit of monsoon activity in the area today and I am sure this has something to do with the sudden drop in temps coming up.

Monsoon pattern finally shifted over our NW Pima County area yesterday and we had a couple of very nice T storm cells move over our location. Some nice, extended heavy downpours. Only 75 F this morning.

In this Weather Underground map, Ajo is way west of Tuscon, south of the Maricopa County line

Hi temp was 79 yesterday and supposed to be about the same today.
For the past week, and likely today, we’ve had lovely afternoon showers and clearing before sunset.

The oak brush on the mountain behind our house is just starting to show some color.

It's been in the mid-upper 90's lately, with lots of smoke from all of the neighboring fires. Then yesterday a big cold front moved in, blew all the smoke out, and cooled things down a lot. Lower 70's today, with clear skies for miles and miles.

Had another T storm cell drop a considerable amount of rain again last evening. 2nd day in a row.

What a wild and woolly ride weather has been this past year. California burning down and now snow in the Denver, Co area. And it was nearly 100 degrees there less than 48 hours ago.

Here? A welcomed cool down. Low to mid 60s for overnight lows forecast for the next couple few days. Ahhhhh.

Is it helping with the air quality (and fires)?

Yes and yes. It's holding the fire at bay and knocking the ash down so air quality is better today where I live. I'm actually listening to a recorded briefing from officials and the fire incident meteorologist and fire behavior specialist right now. They say the snow (12"-18" predicted up on the fire itself) will pretty much stop the spread of the fire and the cold weather over the next few days will keep it down. But it's a very intense fire and this weather is unusual - it's going to warm up and dry out as soon as the weather returns to normal and the fire is certain to come back to life, particularly in rough and remote areas where they can't fight it directly. One concern is the equipment they've set up around the many structures in the area. They basically put tanks, pumps, and big sprinklers around homes and turn them on if the fire approaches and it's not safe for firefighters to stand and fight, and if it drops below freezing and stays there they might freeze. Another concern is the firefighters who are camped out there during this storm. Most have decided to stay in place and they have supplies to hunker down for a couple days. Pray for those folks who's jobs are tough enough as it is. It takes a special breed to do what they do and they don't seem to be bothered in the least by a freak snow storm.

Thanks for asking. And thanks to those who've prayed. I live in town and will not be threatened by the fire. Right now, it's 8-10 miles to my West. There's just so much beetle-killed spruce/fir trees for fuel in the mountains and that timber runs out as it moves closer to town. Plus, there's 2 miles of town between me and the mountains that it'd have to burn through, and that aint gonna happen.

I took these pics yesterday at noon as I came back home after a weekend camping trip.

2nd day in a row of complete overcast skies. But they aren't clouds, but high altitude smoke from the West Coast fires that have been blown by winds from the north. There is no smell of smoke; just overcast.

Very strange. It is so thick that there is no red ball of sun seen.

It's the fall too (sun starting to have southern exposure vs. northern due to tilting of the planet relative to the orbit position around the sun). Over here-- a couple hours later and the sun is shining through. I have sneezed a lot yesterday and today-- the smoke is having an impact.

We've been overcast the last two days. Thick, high atmosphere smoke from all the Western fires. Here you can see how socked in we've been in the SW corner of Arizona. Fortunately, we don't smell smoke. At least not in this part of AZ.

Sixty-five degrees this morning.

There is hope, again.
