Have some entirely passable but forgettable Earl Grey from Twinings that I’m drinking while I wait for something far more exciting to show up.

ImageIt's here. It's here. It's here.

Actually, it's been here for a few days. Likely the strongest black tea on the market today. Strongest black tea still worth drinking, that is, which it most definitely is. Really a great tea. Must be had with heavy cream and real German kluntje kandis rock sugar to be enjoyed as intended. It's easily as strong as coffee so one must watch oneself. Stuff has kept me up and abuzz for hours.

I looked this up on Amazon. Five hundred grams of tea, plus the rock sugar, for just over $40. The tea is loose, right?

Meanwhile this morning I'm sipping Tazo green tea with lemon and ginger while waiting for coffee to brew. Community Coffee, single source Columbian.

Loose it is. Broken leaf Assam with some very fine Darjeeling. I use one teaspoon less than I usually do to make a pot because it brews up so black, bitter, and strong after about three minutes. I also always decant. Most Assam becomes absolutely poisonous with tannin if you don't pour the liquor from off the leaves. As I said, it's a black tea with all the body and zip of coffee. Probably why it remains the preferred hot drink of just some surly, surly Germans on just a cold, forbidding strip of coastline along the unforgiving, indifferent North Sea. God, I love the Frisians.

Much as I'd like to say I do it all fully authentic and only drink this stuff from a porcelain cup and saucer with cream and kluntje, for me that's still a little too much much of the time. Just as likely to have it in a big mug with a hearty dose of whole milk, British style. It's a tea that practically requires a dose of dairy to cut the astringency. Colonial savages who think that they can drink black tea without milk because they fought a revolution or some such disgust me and deserve all of the misfortune that befalls them.

This is one of my favorites, but for some reason, I got out of the practice of buying it. I'll remedy that in just a moment.

I found a Sumatra Gayo blend at my local HEB that I enjoy as much as the Thunder. It's been my go to lately.

London Fog, at a local shop tonight. Way too weak and too sweet, and made the accompanying green sugar cookie much less enjoyable.
