Ummmmmmmm........ When I clicked on the link there were XXX rated ads on the page. This isn't good.
Really? They don't show up on my screen. Sorry.
Maybe a fluke? Not your fault, I'm sure.

I probably have parental ad blocking software going. I didn't think about that.

Could be. I don't have any of that stuff. Maybe I should get some? But this doesn't happen very often.

Yeah, I read Fark.com and I saw this link there. It never occurred to me that it might link to a questionable site.

This is news? I had seen a study about 3 years ago that the porn is desensitizing men to women that they prefer the video images to the real thing.

Wow! I didn't see this one. Everything I have read reports differently, as in A LOT differently. Toth, you must have seen a report about teens or something talking about video games.

It was less in the context of violent crime but in terms of relationships and interactions with women, thinking back about it. Talking about gen y and younger if I remember correctly.

Herb!?? I'll give her herb. It's my woody and I forgot it in NB. That damn kleptomaniac took it to NC! There has to be some kind of law against that.

This is what I meant the other day when I asked about Phase Space, are you saying gaining_age answered the wrong question?

Possibly.
Do you like that answer?

The article is really saying that there is a new fundamental conception of space-time that is quite different than the concept of space-time that Einstein formulated as part of General Relativity. They're calling it Phase Space. Is it a new name? Yes, but it's also a name that is already in use. And it's not clear to me that phase space, the analytical tool, is the same as Phase Space which is a new conception from the research. GA answered your question for phase space, the analytical tool.

It's leading edge research that is very probably formulated in terms of String Theory and the article attempts to describe some of the ramifications. So Phase Space is a label for this conception of space-time that is going to be quite abstract.

For quite a while the rift between descriptions of the world in the very large (General Relativity) and the very small (Quantum Mechanics) suggests that neither can be fundamental descriptions of nature. That somehow nature is quite different than both. Both GR & QM are limited models of nature. We know that conventional measures of space-time in the large scale (ie length, time, & mass which warps space-time) are artifices. They break down on a small scale. They're abstract conceptions created by us in our science. But is Phase Space (whatever that is) more fundamental? It might be if it can describe everything that GR can and solve problems that GR can't. It should also be consist with QM.

They've got a theoretical model and they can likely show that it can predict the correct behaviour of physical phenomena in space-time with the same conditions as GR. But they need to make predictions that discriminate the new theory from the old and then check with nature to see if the model is correct. So it's very early days yet.
BTW GR makes the same predictions as Newtons Mechanics in classical conditions (ie velocities small compared to speed of light, etc). But the conception of space-time in GR is quite different than Newton's.

So does that help?
