I'm enjoying the restoration. I am indeed a desk jockey now and wrench turning is something I miss. Getting to know the car inside and out is also a plus. I'm not forced into the DIY for the sake of cost. I'm just frugal by nature.
All in all, it's been a good project.

The customer wanted a quick pocket screw assembly.

Hello FredS
Ain't nothing wrong with pocket holes. Those suckers are strong! So long as I can hide the holes it's what I usually use. However, for tabletops I've gone to dowels. Last time I was Stateside I bought a Dowl-it jig and really love it.

"Frame," in regards to Bugs, is a euphemism for "floppy sheet metal pan". Back in the day, I helped a buddy put a body lift in his Baja Bug. Literally, we used wood 2x4's. He made a pattern for the one over the front hump that he was later going to use to make a cast aluminum piece so he could replace it all with metal. He spent about a week in high school shop class cutting an old VW engine block in to pieces that would fit in the crucible. When he fired up the forge flames shot about 15' out the top. Turns out those cases were a magnesium alloy.

I take my wet garbage & Lucy's used litter to either one of the gas stations, or the receptacle at the Plaza by the Post Office, so all my other trash is dry, and it tends to stack up. Spending the early afternoon hauling it all out to the alley where my good pipe smoking neighbor offered to throw it on his trailer to the landfill.

Next is to separate out all the alum, tin, and plastic, and condense cardboard flat and I'll make my own run to recycle. Who knows? Maybe I will decide to clean my house next.

For another day

Right now I am trying to take pallets apart without breaking them. My wife has a project she wants to do. It's a little harder than I thought it would be.

School's out and I'm catching up on a lot of things that I didn't get around to during the school year.
My main radio had been acting up for a while. It died while I was trying to work a schedule with Jocose.

I was going to just switch everything over to my backup radio, a Kenwood TS-130, and had done just that when I remembered that the 130 won't do a lot of things I want a home radio to do. So I pulled my portable radio out of my Field Day/emergency Go Kit, and spent the morning cleaning up the "shack" and lashing up the radio.

I'm now back on the air.

I always wonder about those pallet projects. There are quite some transformation pictures out there and some are appealing. Yet pallets scream splinters to me.

Good luck!
