I was gifted 600 rounds of .40S&W from a couple of co-workers with indications that there may be more to come.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are not.

Don't buy any of the Perfecta .40 Walmart was selling a few years back. I got several bad boxes and there were rampant reports of other bad runs. Every round hangs up going into the chamber.Sir Moose wrote:I was gifted 600 rounds of .40S&W from a couple of co-workers with indications that there may be more to come.![]()

Free is great! Just so it isn't the Perfecta stuff sold by Walmart a few years back. Every box of that I got was great except for the .40. I got six boxes and every round hangs up going into the chamber. There were rampant reports of others having the same issue with Perfecta .40.
Free ammo is great. I giggle like a school girl when a tire shop gives me their old wheel weights for free.

AIM Surplus up the road had some heavy barrelled S&W 64-3's and -6's in stock. They were European law enforcement guns and look to be in decent shape. I'm half tempted to get a -6. Thoughts?

Free ammo! If there is a better gift dollar for dollar I do not know it.

We all know it is a solid gun and they do look to be in pretty good shape. I just think the price is a bit high but to undercut it you would really need to watch the classifieds and pawn shops and be ready to strike when you found the right deal. That said it is a fair price and you shouldn't lose sleep on the purchase.

I've decided to pass. I'd rather have something in the K frame chambered for .357 magnum. It makes more sense to me to have the option.rgcurrey wrote:We all know it is a solid gun and they do look to be in pretty good shape. AK's are a facinating family of firearms to study. I have been rebuilding demilled foreign parts kits for a couple years now and this 1983 Yugo M72B1 RPK is one of my favorites. She was probably never issued before being cut up.
Some would say the torch is exactly what these former machine guns, meant only to kill, deserve. I enjoy giving them a second life as a rifle meant only for a relaxing day at the rage. Studying how each country tweaked the Kalashnikov rifle can be loads of fun too

I said goodbye to my .270 Pre 64 today...it hurt and I will miss it. I want a .300 H&H and couldn't afford both so the .270 went down the road. I am hoping the buyer loves it and takes it huntin...I am on the hunt for an affordable 300

That hurts.
Too bad you couldn’t afford both.

Neither does my shoulder.

Even using a lead sled to sight in didn't help much with the shoulder.

A pre-64 .270? You let it go? I will say it. ARE YOU MAD SIR?!? I know there are others out there, however, they are not often around especially in good shape.Thunktank wrote: ↑Sat Apr 20, 2019 12:47 amI may have missed it, but there must be a memory or something that draws you to a 300 h&h.Bloodhound wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2019 8:49 pmI said goodbye to my .270 Pre 64 today...it hurt and I will miss it. The rifle was a 1954, and was in original fine un altered condition. I have wanted a .300 H&H since I was a teen. It is one of those sentimental favorite cal. I liked the .270 but wasn't attached to it. I have my .308 and .243 model 88s that are sentimental favorites. I will keep looking and the right .300 will show up.
